Hello All,

I am very much interested in the Lego Train systems. Almost all of the sets are over 150$. Now, I am from India. So, if I include takes, shipping charges etc, it is really sky rocketing.

Also, Engines are really what drive me the most. So, I am thinking if I should go ahead and purchase an Engine and few tracks and power it and finally add coaches later. So, is there any way to purchase Engine alone?. I really am interested in the make and model of the Maersk Train from Lego. So, how do I purchase a single component of a set?.

How do you guys see this idea of purchasing?. Please share your thoughts as I am virtually new into the world of Lego Train systems.

Thanks,

Pavan.

Hi pawan_it17, welcome to Eurobricks! Another idea is to first start with a normal trains set, that gives you all the basics and then you can start building your own trains from that with extra parts like from bricklink indeed.

This is exactly the way that I started with trains few years ago. Keep in mind that if you want to build a proper train you'll need some very specific parts (and some of them in larger quantities), so the easiest way to start is to get a regular train set first.

Bricklink is also an option to buy individual train engines or carriages from official sets, but individual units will always be proportionally more expensive than the entire set, regardless if it still in production or not.

As others have said, I'd get one of the train sets Lego are currently selling. They'll come with remote control, track, train and a couple of trucks. Maersk is an awesome set (I have 2) but only way to get it now is through eBay, which is pricey.

I would also say to get a regular set first, they are so easy to get started on.

Also if you like the Maersk train, rather than trying to recreate it in Maersk Blue (Which will be very expensive.) why not try to make the engine in a cheaper colour like ordinary blue, or black, DBG for example. I have been toting with the idea of producing the engine in a different colour myself, maybe DBG.
