lightningtiger Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 They are both great rolling stock designs 'Lazarus'......the hopper one is my favourite of the two......Brick On 'Lazarus' ! Quote
KringlesBricks Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 I really like them!! Nice work. Quote
zephyr1934 Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 The eye of a good editor can make all the difference in the world. And half the fun of this hobby is reverse engineering the brilliant tricks that others have done. Still, if you recall where you saw the originals, post links to them. It is always neat to see how things are added or subtracted in the evolutionary process of reinterpretation. (oh, and BTW, they are both good cars, always good to see some attention paid to the train cars) Quote

Duq Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 ... inspired buy other peoples mean skills ... I'm sorry, there is nothing 'inspired by' in these two models. They are simply copies of Michael Gale's designs. Quote
Lazarus Posted September 28, 2013 Author Posted September 28, 2013 (edited) yup that's what everyone else understood from that comment, I also posted links to the Flicker pics. His great work inspired me to try and replicate his work, if i said they where my own work then you could have a go I never calmed this. I copied his pics but where unable to clone them to at brick to brick level. The three BR locos i just made where copy's of other peoples work with minor changes in there also with the above ones. I would prefer to just buy the plans from him and save my time trying to clone them its not that easy to clone his work we for me anyway. I am sure people would understand the below statement and know in shot I have cloned his work. "Once again inspired buy other peoples mean skills if only these people sold there plans it would save me a tone of time trying to recreate them :-) "I am happy to pay for them if the creator is floating around the forums. " I have had to create these from a image found online and try and use my own skill to recreate there epicness." Edited September 28, 2013 by Lazarus Quote
Hrw-Amen Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 They do look like nice wagons, but I am not sure about the brake van? I remember seeing the double ended BR ones and if memory serves they were always just wood finish, as opposed to the old Great Western ones that were grey but only had an open platform bit at one end? Maybe it is just that I live in GWR territory? But yes, it was clear that you were reproducing them. I think the hopper is the nicest one but the other wagon is great as well. Quote
Lazarus Posted September 28, 2013 Author Posted September 28, 2013 Ya i looked at some real life pics for break van, yes they where mostly wood but some where painted in other colors. I might change it up a little more but just rushed though the van last night. Quote
michaelgale Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 As flattered as I am by having three of my Lego wagon designs laboriously reverse engineered, reproduced and spotlighted on this forum; I would have preferred to have been asked first. I support fair-use efforts to create derivative works from others; however, these three wagons you see here are not simply derivative, they are direct copies. I don't mind people copying my creations to build for themselves--the reason we share our MOCs on flickr is to inspire and to learn from others. I do draw the line at selling or deriving commercial benefit from my works. Its similar to open source software--depending on the license, we are free to copy/modify/make derivative works; but often we are not permitted to derive commercial benefit. I would invite other folks to visit my flickr pages and judge for yourself whether these wagon designs are derivative variations, or simply copies... Hopper wagon : British Rail HEA wagon : Open wagon : British Rail OBA wagon : LDD render : Open wagon : British Rail OBA wagon : Brick build : Brake van : British Rail ZUV Shark, engineers ballast plough : (incidentally, the brake van version you see represented on this page in grey/red never did exist in the prototype. The plough brake van was exclusively used by BR engineering works for ballast and track maintenance. Therefore, the liveries worn by this wagon include either bauxite brown, olive green, grey, grey+yellow band, and in later years, Load/Haul black/orange, and EWS. Rail grey/red was the livery used for Railfreight rolling stock) Quote
Lazarus Posted September 29, 2013 Author Posted September 29, 2013 (edited) Hello Michael Yes i copied your work as close as i could, due to me thinking the design was perfect. These where for my own layout not for resale, i did not think it would turn into the issue it has and drag you into this. Like i said if you had the lxf files for some of your work i would love to have them/Buy them as I am a big BR fan. But my skill is lacking when it comes to building i am ok but even from copying your pics i still have no clue how you made some bits work. Your snot work is amazing. My biggest fave of yours is the HST and i have tried to remake but my skills just cant do it. I do not want to be known around the lego world as someone who steals work. But when i see something good and unable to get hold of the plans all i can do is try and copy it. If i knew how to contact yourself i would of just asked for the plans, it looks like you are well known to some of the builders and they informed you of my work. I hope you accept this as an apology Thanks Matthew Edited September 29, 2013 by Lazarus Quote
michaelgale Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 Matthew, Thank you for your prompt follow up. No apology is required, since at no time were you commercially exploiting my creations. I simply wanted to go on record saying that I did not endorse commercial use of my creations. Thank you for your kind words regarding my creations--that is appreciated. I still have a lot to learn, and continue to do so by admiring the techniques used by many other Lego train builders. You should not underestimate your own skills--the fact that you were able to faithfully recreate some of my creations suggests that you possess more skill than you give yourself credit for. I am more than happy for you to copy my creations for your own layout! We all at some point copy ideas from others--that's how we learn--and that is how we can discover new improvements or techniques. Thanks again, and I look forward to seeing more of your own creations. At the end of the day, we do this to make cool creations and have fun! Michael Quote
