DrJB Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 Some of us have 1000's of parts already ... and no need to keep on buying parts that go into storage ...Why doesn't TLG release an EV3 with the bare essentials i.e., main brick + sensors + cables + software .... I'm sure there'll be many takers ... and maybe many of us wil buy MULTIPLE sets. Any thoughts ? (I hope someone from TLG is reading this) Quote
Ramacco Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 You will be able to buy all the electronics parts seperatly from the shop at home pretty soon. In my opinion providing a set without parts is quite useless for LEGO to release, whereas the majority of buyers are new users which maybe don't have technic parts (or maybe it is their first set). To me it doesn't seem quite intresting.. Half the fun is to open the bags with parts and build all of the models that come with the set. But if you really only want the electronics, wait a few months and you'll be able to buy those from shop at home. Probably this solution is as expensive as buying the entire set.. Quote
spzero Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 or just go on to bricklink and buy them there, I'm sure some selllers will have the parts on day one. Quote
DrJB Posted August 29, 2013 Author Posted August 29, 2013 Better yet .... I'll buy the whole set and sell all new/sealed bags on BL! Quote
Jim Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 (edited) The technic parts in the EV3 sets are just a small portion of the entire set. The price would't drop that much without them. It's not that you get 2000+ parts with this set. I consider these parts a bonus, since buying the electronic separately will probably be the same price as the entire set (like Ramacco mentioned). And you could get the educational version which even has the rechargeable battery, which is around 100 bucks. From your comments in the "Is it worth upgrading" topic and this topic, I reckon you are looking for a way of justifying an EV3 purchase, or getting a cheaper EV3 Edited September 2, 2013 by Ted Quote
DrJB Posted September 3, 2013 Author Posted September 3, 2013 (edited) Just got the retail version today. ... @ Ted, I have way more parts than I'll ever use ... To me, more parts means simply they'll get stored somehow ... Unless I start sharing or bricklink... One 'small' surprise ... Seems TLG is aggressively cutting costs .... As only 'the' brick came individually wrapped. All other motors/sensors were 'loose' in the box. Not even some paper wrapping as in the NXT set. Edited September 3, 2013 by DrJB Quote
Jim Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 Just got the retail version today. ... Great! Regarding the parts; I think it's very personal. I can't have enough parts, although I admit, that most of them are stored and never get used. But you might just need them one day Quote
