oo7 Posted March 16, 2007 Posted March 16, 2007 Here is one of my latest MOCing endeavors, a German biplane from The Great War. I'm pretty happy with everything except the color scheme. *'The Flight if the Bumblebee' plays in head* :'-( Here's my pilot; he's German if you didnt already notice. ;-) Now for the graphical logorrhea......(Oh joy! *sweet*) Minifigure scale. I based the scale of this on a Sears and Robuck die-cast steel biplane piggy bank thingie that a relative gave me as a Christmas present a while back.....I wish I had saved the original box for a conformation of the name and scale of the thing. From what I've gathered, it's a 1950's model built for recreation and nostalgic reflection purposes, due to the aerodynamic design of the wheel hubs. It would also most likely be American. On my model I've restored the 1910's wheels so now it seems to primarily resemble a Sopwith Camel. I still might take another picture or two sometime soon...........The whole aeronautic gallery. Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted March 16, 2007 Eurobricks Emperor Posted March 16, 2007 Nice airplane oo7! I don't know if the colors are realistic (historical), but it looks good and that's what counts! Is it supposed to be the same model as the other plane in the pics? Quote
MatthewUSA Posted March 16, 2007 Posted March 16, 2007 Very well done 007. Your model is a great replica. I also would like to add that your pictures have given me some ideas of my own. Using the hinge on the landing gear has given me another concept to pursue for my own models. Thank you for the idea. I did not think of that before. Again your model is great. Quote
Asuka Posted March 16, 2007 Posted March 16, 2007 Very beautiful indeed. That landing gear is very clever and so is this sloped tail. Great! *y* Quote

Thank you Emperor, and I can assure you, the combination of black and yellow is barely realistic. The black is alright, but really only for German planes, but the yellow really isn't in the least good. Very well done 007. Your model is a great replica. El Bucanero Posted March 16, 2007 Posted March 16, 2007 Good job oo7! You made a very nice airplane. Too bad about the colour scheme though. Are going to build more WWI MOCs? I bet you'd do a great job! Mr Tiber Quote
Scouty Posted March 16, 2007 Posted March 16, 2007 That's a very nice airplane. I especially like it that it's from the WWI era. Though I like the WWII era better, WWI is interesting as well. I like the color scheme, actually. Despite what everyone else says. Though, I'd do some changes if I had it in my hands X-D . First of all, I'd remove the Republic round tiles, all four of them, and the eye piece in the back. And I'd replace those, in the front, with 2x1 tile plates to make the German insignia. The back I'd use 1x1 bricks, or plates, and do the same, th of the airplane, though possibly in a different style. Those are my thoughts and it's your plane :-) . I like the fuselage *y* , how it's kind of smoothed down. Quote

I bet you'd do a great job! Thank you Mister Tiber, I'm glad you like it. Right now I have other burning building desires, but I might think of something else WWI, and more likely WWII sometime in the future. Though, I'd do some changes if I had it in my hands X-D . Well, I'm way too lazy to make and print a correctly sized German Cross, so there goes that. As for the '1x1 bricks, or plates, that I would do the same with in the back', are you saying you would put a mini German Cross on two 1x1 tiles, one for each side of tailplane? Anyways, thanks for the feedback, the lists of specific suggestions like that are very useful. ;-) Quote

Norro Posted March 16, 2007 Posted March 16, 2007 Very nice! I might go with a little less space between the top and bottom wings, but all round very good! God Bless, Nathan Quote
oo7 Posted March 16, 2007 Author Posted March 16, 2007 Awesome MOC Mr oo7!But as for the colour scheme - which colours would you have preferred? Thanks for the input Mr. Phes *y*. The only suitable color that those really long slopes come in is dark bley, so there's that, and the secondary color could be (dark) blue, (dark) red, (dark) green, light grey, white or and only in the this case, black (If it were in, maybe, blue or dark blue I might change the ownership of the plane of the allied powers, though). Very nice! I might go with a little less space between the top and bottom wings, but all round very good! Ah, a reasurance from a very experienced builder, just what I needed Mr. Norro! That sure is a different comment - The wings are further apart then my, personal, model but I think it's fine comared to other planes. ;-) Quote

I was suggesting that the 1x1 plates were built in the tail of the plane. I could see why not to build the German insignia on the wings, but it'd look nice. Unfortunately, for the next couple days, I'm away from my Lego. I've been want to build some World War II vehicles. I just have to finish up some models I have to build to use as references. I don't think that the color scheme should be changed. Maybe to a drk gry but I like it very much. Quote
Athos Posted March 16, 2007 Posted March 16, 2007 Very cool. I like the color scheme myself. Except for the round tiles, I don't think they match the rest of the colors. I think you should design a 1930s/1940s passenger/cargo plane next. The whole aeronautic gallery. He he he... I'm such a trend setter... X-D I'm also going to cross-post this to Adventurers.dk Steve Quote

I think you should design a 1930s/1940s passenger/cargo plane next. You're right about the top round tiles, however formerly partially matched, as in early stages of development I had used black, yellow, and dark red (with the small amount of white and grays). I really should have taken them off by now. Although I think the lower black and white wing tiles still match well. I think you should design a 1930s/1940s passenger/cargo plane next. Hmmm........like the plane Indy uses to travel to Nepal in Raiders? That would be big....... He he he... I'm such a trend setter... X-D :-D I was doing some initial experimenting there.......it appears it is a success. :-D I'm also going to cross-post this to Adventurers.dk Wow, thank you very much. Mike F Posted March 16, 2007 Posted March 16, 2007 :-D LOL I chose the last thing with the snakes. That is very funny! Even though I think the color scheme is alright. Quote

Dark Brick Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 I do not usually visit this forum, much less make comments on the threads within, but I was always a big history buff in High School and I could not help but make a comment on this piece. This is very well done for this plane. Early 20th Century engineering was very impressive indeed and you, oo7, captured it in spades. From the wings to the tail end to the landing gear and cockpit, this is truly wonderful. The minifig adds to the timeline with the garb that he is wearing and makes a great addition to the plane as a whole. *wub* *y* I am sure that you will concur that the Red Baron plane made by TLC was damn good too. Cheers! DB Quote
Norro Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 Forgot to mention that I quite like the eye, a unique marker for a very confident pilot... I also hate err.. I've forgotten the rest... X-D God Bless, Nathan Quote

It seems he has two different versions, one of which he's selling and a couple other propeller propelled passenger planes including a DC-3 and a DC-4. And I missed that Red Baron (It's not like I was going to buy it anyway) in a semi-sorta-kinda-"dark ages". Although it certainly does look very nice. Forgot to mention that I quite like the eye, a unique marker for a very confident pilot...I also hate err.. I've forgotten the rest... X-D Heh. I still find the eye funny myself. It's from this set; http://cache.lego.com/images/shop/prod/101...000-xx-12-1.jpg "Mrs. Bunny".
