Some parts are rather rare in Technic sets, but come in large quantities under other themes. What else can you think of, besides the few below? 1. Witch Doctor (Hero Factory) -- 2. Corroder (Hero Factory) -- 3. Skopio (Bionicle) ...

this topic is pretty vague, leaving a confusion for many reader. i suppose what you want to say is "sets that contain a decent amount of technic parts, despite not being a set from technic theme? if that's the case then i guess most of hero factory vehicles would fall on that list.

Or the old Bionicle vehicles, which had lots of panels.

From the thread title I was first thinking about sets that holds rare parts, like 8450 which was the only set with 19L black flex axles.

DrJb, please be more clear about what you mean?

And if you want a large number of special parts, you don't buy sets. You buy them from Bricklink (like Aino said) or directly from Lego, although Bricklink is probably the best option.

Edit: looking at the Witch Doctor makes me realize I should consider buying these kind of sets. They have special panels to decorate a robot.

Lego games are also handy for parts. The harry potter game has 4 8x16 tiles for example, I always pick one up if it's at a fiver on evilbay. The new Batman game [massively limited production run and only in Europe] has 2x2 trans-yellow bricks.

Well, let's clarify a bit more. Some 'specialty' technic parts are rather rare in technic sets, yet come in large numbers in bionicle/hero sets. I gave as an example The witch Doctor for 92907 (http://www.bricklink...tem.asp?P=92907), Corroder for 57585 (http://www.bricklink...sp?P=57585&in=S), Bionicle Accessory Set for 44809 (http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=44809), and Skopio for many technic panels and tracks.

I was merely asking the Technic 'community' which sets they felt were a good value for the assortment of technic pieces included. I'm fully aware of Bricklink and often shop there, but sometimes you get better value/assortment of pieces when you acquire the not so technic sets.

So, again, what sets have you found to be a 'good' value for technic assortments (besides 8258), and in addition to those I mentioned above.

Thanks for clarifying DrJB.

And thanks for making me aware that the Heroes Factory series has a lot of cool parts.
