pillpod Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 Hey there, I've had this mini modular built in LDD for a while now but wasn't sure if I wanted to build it with bricks. I finally caved and bought the bricks needed for it. It's my second apartment building and my fifth overall mini modular. ^ The idea for the building stems from the blue columns. They ended up making the building fairly weak, structurally speaking; I had to make a few modifications (one of which was adding an extra level of plates at the top of the building). ^ For some reason I like putting dumpsters behind most of my builds. ^ Here are all five of my minis to date. Somehow the two apartment buildings ended up being the same exact height. You can see some more shots of the minis on my flickr. Any comments or critiques are always appreciated! Thanks Quote
lightningtiger Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 Oh, I this Art Deco inspired creation...........Brick On 'pillpod' ! Quote
Kristel Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 Looks great pillpod, individually and as part of the street! The different greens for the trees out front bugs me a little though, as it takes away from the symmetry of the building Quote
pillpod Posted July 28, 2013 Author Posted July 28, 2013 Thanks lightningtiger and kristel! Kristel, I might switch the cones now that you mention it; I kind of agree. I appreciate the comment. Quote
jluck Posted July 28, 2013 Posted July 28, 2013 Your city is really coming together! I will say this is my second favorite building you've done so far:) Quote
timmyc1983 Posted July 28, 2013 Posted July 28, 2013 Very nice, I normally prefer minifig scale builds, but I quite like this one. I think the look of the blue columns is worth any structural issues you may have encountered, they make the 'look' of the building! And I like the look of your street altogether, looks awesome! And I like some of your LDD designs on flickr too! Particularly the bank and the dark blue shop, would love to see them in bricks too. Great work and happy building Quote
Denes Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 Art Deco, from the Miami beach. Great work 'pillpod' Quote
pillpod Posted July 29, 2013 Author Posted July 29, 2013 jluckhaput, timmyc1983, Esurient, and Denes: Thank you for your comments. It's one of my favorite builds so far, too. timmyc1983: I think I'll revisit that bank I have build in LDD. I need to make it a little bit bigger before I build it in bricks. I also want to build that dark blue one but it might break the bank to get that many bark blue bricks. Maybe I'll switch the color to something easier to find. Quote
moctown Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Nice work on this, pillpod! I like those columns and the chosen color scheme as well! I'm wondering about using those mod. plates on the rear side. Looks a bit heavy in my eyes ... how about using these? Good work, though! Quote
pillpod Posted July 30, 2013 Author Posted July 30, 2013 Thanks moctown! I had those slider plates in my original LDD build. I switched them out because the two stores I bought pieces from didn't have them in the right color. I think they had black, greys...maybe dark tan...but I didn't want to use dark tan. I might get them eventually and see what they look like. This might be my last build for a little while. I'll be moving soon and will be pretty busy Quote
Andy D Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Very nice! I am also a fan of your blue columns, they really do a lot for the building. I lkie how the front looks so nce nd the back looks like a service area in an alleyway. Looking forward to your next creation. Andy D Quote
