ACPin Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 (edited) [pid][/pid] 241A Mi Ultimo Adios (Spanish, 'My Last Farewell') is a poem written by Philippine national hero Dr. Jose Rizal on the eve of his execution on 30 December 1896. Jose Rizal's advocacy of liberty through peaceful means rather than by violent revolution makes him Asia's first modern non-violent proponent of freedom. Forerunner of Gandhi and contemporary of Tagore and Sun Yat Sen, all four created a new climate of thought throughout Asia, leading to the attrition of colonialism. Jose Rizal was tried before a court-martial for rebellion, sedition, and conspiracy, was convicted on all three charges, and sentenced to death. Before his execution on December 30, 1896 by a squad of Filipino soldiers of the Spanish Army, a backup force of regular Spanish Army troops stood ready to shoot the executioners should they fail to obey orders. Thanks for the blog and those torsos were just right for the Filipino soldiers based from some photos I found about the execution. AC Quote
