I heard the Stones were awesome at Glastonbury; what did you think?

Absolutely brilliant. Went after about an hour and a half to see Public Enemy because there were so many people there it was becoming unbearable. Overall, I saw

Jake Bugg

Vaccines

Bastille

Seasick Steve

Rolling Stones

Public Enemy

Arctic Monkeys

Dizzee Rascal

Elvis Costello

Kenny Rogers

Mumford and Sons

Two Door Cinema Club

Alabama Shakes

My favorites were Two Door, Bastille, Jake Bugg, and surprisingly Kenny Rogers. Bastille were awesome on the John Peel where thousands turned up to a small stage which was hard to get to. #commitment

I was 4 rows from the front at Two Door- if you don't know them and like guitars then check them out, they are great.

I've been to two small Dutch cover bands (they covered metal and hardrock)

And I'm going to Lowlands as a volunteer in August and Black Sabbath in November.

I unfortunately am in a position that makes going to festivals impossible (I keep being told there are better things to do than sitting in a field listening to music), but I managed to watch what was provided by the BBC.

The band are definitely showing their age, but that's what made it so awesome to watch. Yes, there were times when Mick Jagger couldn't quite hit the high notes, but he sang with such raw enthusiasm that it didn't matter at all. In my opinion, The Rolling Stones are just as good now as they've ever been. Part of what makes them so great is how they can control an audience so convincingly.

Too many to name, but here's a few:

-Rolling stones 2006

-AC/DC 2009

-Peter Pan speedrock

-Kaiser Chiefs

-Triggerfinger

-Nashville Pussy

And in September I'll be seeing Roger Waters with Bonaparte here in Amsterdam. :sweet:

Wow! That is a load of very cool concerts! It must be much easier to hear famous bands in the EU because the distances between big cities are so much shorter. Many of the best concerts I have heard were there as well and were by famous orchestras, the most recent being the Berlin Philharmonic conducted by Abbado in May. The most touching was Rostropovich conducting in London with Fournier on cello. For sheer performance magic, Julio rocked the crowd of old ladies in Paris in 2005.

In the US I heard Jose Feliciano, the Jefferson Starship and Sting during college days. In the past twenty years the Moody Blues, Coldplay, Annie Lennox, Leonard Cohen, Joshua Bell on violin with the NC Symphony, and Sting again...his performance was much better in 1985.

Still on my to do list is Yo Yo Ma (and some other classical performers.) There were only country western concerts in Texas where I grew up, and I hated that music until my thirties. Y'all are so fortunate to have so many great performances nearby. The Led Zep, Doors, Dylan, Chicago, and Joni Mitchell were on my dream list in earlier decades.

Not many of them in past 17 years and mostly local bands. Among the few international I saw were Deep Purple and Jean Michel Jarre to mention only the most famous.

However, the most recent I've been to was Paul McCartney last week in Vienna. It was simply awesome. At 71, he easily outperforms almost everyone up to 20 years younger than him. :classic:

I was in Vienna, too. And my conclusion was that I can totally understand why the (dominantly) female audience couldn't keep quiet 50 years ago. Even at 71, he's got some energy that makes him a special performer.

I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy it. About half of the songs he played in Vienna, were from the Beatles, and the performance was fantastic and very energizing. I had the music caught in my mind for couple of days. Simply loved it there.

Ah, I'm seeing Paul McCartney in Washington next week! I'll have to see how he compares to the Stones.

Well, where I start?

I saw:

-MUSE in 2010 at San Siro, this was my first concert

-TOTO, twice in 2012 in Majano and in 2013 in Padova, there are a great band live

-Steve Lukather (TOTO's guitarist) in 2013 in Bressanone, he is awesome with his guitar and I have one of his picks

-Bon Jovi in 2011 in Udine and 2013 in San Siro, they were absolutely great in all two dates. We, italian fan, gave them a coreography made on stadium bleachers that it puts to cry with emotion Jon Bon Jovi.

-Bruce Springsteen in 2013, 3 hours of concert not less

-Depeche Mode in 2013 in San Siro, Dave Ghan is absolutely fantastic live

-Deep Purple in 2013, age doesn't matter for them

All of this band easily outperform almost everyone younger than them, locations as San Siro Stadium in Milan then give a special atmosphere. If they will return in Italy one day I think I will go to see all of them again, because in my opinione it is worth seeing them live. :classic:

- ZZ Top

- Van Halen (w-Sammy Hagar)

- B. B. King

- Frank Zappa

There were some more, they'll probably come back to me soon!

Ok, here are some more:

- Yes

- Moody Blues

Sorry to resuscitate this thread, but...

News! This coming Friday, I will be going to see 80s' star Gary Numan in my city of Oxford for his Splinter Tour. Has anyone seen him live before, or have any idea what I'm letting myself into? :sweet:

I'm interested in a few of his early 80s' albums, but I have no idea what this latest album will be like.

Meh, I'm really not a fan but his poster looked incredibly weird in the academy. Like incredibly.

In other news, the most recent stuff I've seen live is:

Miles Kane

Boomtown Rats

Is that the one with him wearing a top hat? That's really quite average when it comes to music posters.

Oh, I know. I go to a lot of gigs- I've been regulating around 2 a month lately. I meant in terms of Gary Numan.

An absolutely astonishing performance from a 55 year old bloke who has been in the business over 30 years. The support act, a band I have not heard of called 'Losers' was nice, but the man himself was in a class above.

Lots of smoke and strobe lighting to be had, which gave a pretty cool slow-motion effect to Numan's headbanging. My ears are still recovering from the ear-blasting as I write, as I was fortunate to be standing roughly two metres from Gary's shoes. The show was made all the more entertaining by those witty middle-aged chaps who shout funny things like "Get your kit off!" periodically whenever it goes quiet, and then push one out of the way to go and fetch more beer.

I've also never seen a man drink so much bottled water.

Been to a lot of concerts and festivals, but some that stand out are NIN, Bauhaus, the Sisters of Mercy, David Byrne, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Faith No More, Shihad, Union Jack, Jethro Tull (three times), Third World, the Prodigy, Sonic Youth, Gavin Friday and Anne Clark.

And a long, long list of names that wouldn't mean anything to anyone outside of Israel.

Oh yeah, and Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker (AKA Cream minus Clapton). I knew I was forgetting someone important, and that was the one. Ginger Baker played the longest drum solo I've ever seen or heard. Like nearly a full-length album drum solo.
