RaincloudDustbin Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 I have been to (recently) Green Day who were supported by All Time Low and Kaiser Chiefs. I saw the Twang a few weeks before and James before that. I am already pacing for Glastonbury in a week and will see Two Door Cinema Club and The Stones there. Hopefully Jake Bugg as well and probably Mumford and Sons, Dinosaur J. What concerts have you been to? Quote
MikroMan Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 I've started going to concerts about two years ago... I've been to a concert of ex-yugo rock band Parni valjak (Steamroller), Brit Floyd (UK tribute to Pink Floyd) and Slash (+ Myles Kennedy). In July I'm going to 2Cellos concert and Alter Bridge in November. And I really, really wish to see The Rolling Stones and ACDC at least once in my lifetime. Quote
Sam892 Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 I've been to Reading festival for the last 2 years and seen the following: Greenday, Foo fighters, The Black keys, Kaiser Cheifs, The Cure, Paramore, Jake Bugg, The Hives, Pulp, The Strokes, Beady eye, My Chemical Romance, 30 seconds to Mars, At the drive in, Eagles of Deathmetal, Madness, The offspring, The Maccabees, Band of Skulls, Gaslight anthem, Folerance and the Machine and many many more. jimmynick Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Glastonbury, lucky you! I don't really go in for concerts, but I saw The Who (supported by Vintage Trouble ) 8 months ago and The Rolling Stones a few weeks ago. I'm seeing the Stones again in a few days. Quote
Scorpiox Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 I was lucky enough to grab tickets to see the amazing Led Zeppelin in Knebworth 1979 - still ranks as one of the best nights of my life thus far. I would have loved to see Pink Floyd here in their home country some time in the 70s, but I was largely unsuccessful. Same with David Bowie, who is one of my favourite artists of all time. I came close to seeing 'the Dame' on his Stage tour in 1978, but was unable to get tickets, something I kick myself for to this day. In more recent history, I missed the Stones at the O2 not too long ago, but I'm holding out for some further shows in the future. I would nigh-on kill for a final Bowie tour in England before he sets his 'No live show' policy in stone, as I loved the new album and am pretty sure that he could still handle it. David wrote the soundtrack to my life (just look at my avatar), yet I regret never having seen him in person. However the fact that nothing has been said at all about a tour makes one turning up seem unlikely. Quote
Leo604 Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 I went to an Elton John concert in town with my mom and some family friends when I was 11; I think that's the only legit one I've ever been to. Quote
eurotrash Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 I've seen some amazing gigs; The Buzzcocks and The Stranglers in '78, Apollo 440 in Canada, and Kraftwerk on their Computer Love tour. But the best gig I ever experienced, by far, no contest was the epic Pop Will Eat Itself at the Brixton Academy in London. It was a high octane, non-stop, wall-of-sound, glorious, glorious fun! Can U Dig It? Quote
xboxtravis7992 Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 Paramore-No Doubt The Fray U2 (U2360 Concert Tour) Star Wars in Concert (I know it is not a rock or pop group but I think it counts!) Quote
Peppermint_M Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 Ooo. So, Noise and Confusion (Foo Fighters Oasis, The Subways and some forgettables) Um... Avril Lavigne when supported by Simple Plan Simple Plan and MC Lars 30 Seconds to Mars (twice in one year baby!) I fogot their first support act but the other was Enter Shikari Lacuna Coil and Dommin (plus Dirty Little Rabbits) got Dommin's autographs that time. Uh, Video Games Live My Chemical Romance and The Blackout Everclear and a host of pointless bands. Next plans are: Turn up in Cardiff to try and get into Bastille at the Student's Union. 30 Seconds to Mars again and Gloryhammer in Bristol. Quote
Shadows Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 You know who put on a good show? Mozart. I'll never forget the stunning premier of Don Giovanni in 1787. I had been spending the fall in Prague, as was my habit at the time, and couldn't pass up the opportunity. We were actually Freemasons in the same lodge, which gave me a generous discount at the concession stand. It was a lovely evening, one I'll never forget. Quote

tomdobs55 Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 Hmmm lets see...I've seen The Killers 4 times, Jimmy Buffett twice, Smash Mouth and Everclear, Taproot and Sevendust, U2 3 times, Bon Jovi twice, Bruce Springsteen, Brand New, Taking Back Sunday...I think that's pretty much it. Oh yeah we saw Seseme Street live a couple months ago. Quote

RaincloudDustbin Posted June 20, 2013 Author Posted June 20, 2013 I forgot some others. I saw Kiss at the NEC a few years ago. Green Day again at the O2, U2 , Dizzee Rascal, Gorillaz who I also saw later that year at NEC (because they sucked at Glastonbury- not right sort of venue IMO), Scissor Sisters, Lightning Seeds, at Glastonbury and some more I'll list later. My dad works at Glastonbury when it's on in exchange for free tickets so I'm going with a load of mates. Was also supposed to see Red Hot Chilli Peppers at Knebworth but my grandma died the same weekend so I went up there, ended up going to the national Space Centre for some reason where it happened to be Brickish Weekend. def Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 I saw soooo many concerts. In my early university years, I was going almost weekly to shows.... Depeche Mode, Jesus & Mary Chain, Erasure, the Cure, Morrissey, Jesus Jones, Ned's Atomic Dustbin, Blur (Modern Life is Rubbish), Bjork (Debut), Pulp (His and Hers), Oasis (Definitely Maybe), Weezer (Blue Album), Smashing Pumpkins (Siamese Dream), Nine Inch Nails (Downward Spiral), Flaming Lips (Transmissions...), Beck (Mellow Gold), Stereolab (Dots and Loops), Spiritualized (Laser Guided Melodies), Vaporspace, the Black Dog, Autechre, Speedy J, the Pixies (Trompe le Monde), Aphex Twin (Richard D James), Orbital (Orblivion), Green Day (Dookie), David Bowie (Earthling), Primal Scream (XTRMN8R), Basement Jaxx, Safety Scissors, Plastikman, Cobblestone Jazz.... that's off the top of my head, there were a pile more... To be fair, I saw a ton of crap bands too. I saw a lot of crap. I saw Menswear live. But I saw much of what I still like about 90's music live, whether early in their careers, or late, depending on my schedule. I saw as much as I could between 89 and 96. I never saw Phish. I was never on that many drugs. Then I just stopped going out so much. My only regrets? Not seeing My Bloody Valentine and Nirvana live. I'd love to see Phoenix, Hot Chip, or Vampire Weekend live at this point, but I don't see them venturing up to my part of the world at this point. I think I'd go out for that though. Quote
Scorpiox Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 I saw soooo many concerts. In my early university years, I was going almost weekly to shows.... David Bowie (Earthling) You saw Bowie! How was he? Although, as a massive fan I kind of lost interest in his new material after Let's Dance up until end of the 90s - the stuff just wasn't the same quality in my opinion. Just listening to Ziggy and then following it up with Tonight - it hardly seems like the same person to me. Haven't listened to that album (Earthling) an awful lot, nor am I a fan of the genre in general. I'd like to know what it sounded like, if you wouldn't mind sharing. Anyhow, what sort of tracks did he do (If you can remember) - were they all from that period or did he perform some of his earlier hits? Quote

Scubacarrot Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 I've seen tons, last night I've seen Symphony X live. From the top of my head: Avantasia, Pain of Salvation, Kasabian, Coldplay, Pearl Jam, Queens of the Stone Age, Elbow, All Time Low, Kings of Leon, Arctic Monkeys, Iron Maiden, The Hives, Seasick Steve, to name a few. def Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 You saw Bowie! How was he? He was great. I was born in the 70s, which is say too late to see him tour Ziggy Stardust. That and Scary Monsters are my favorites. All the same, late Bowie is still solid. I don't remember the track listing, but he mixed up stuff from all the eras. He had Nine Inch Nails opening for him. It was a great show. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Outside_Tour As Nine Inch Nails reached the conclusion of their performance, and as the stage-crew commenced working behind a large backdrop preparing for Bowie's performance, the band continued with David Bowie performing "Subterraneans", "Hallo Spaceboy" and "Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps)", followed by two Nine Inch Nails songs "Reptile" and "Hurt" after which Bowie continued with his own set.[3] Looking at that, it wasn't Earthling, it was Outside. I never heard that album to comment on it though. Here is a general setlist: http://www.setlist.fm/stats/average-setlist/david-bowie-6bd6ee66.html?tour=Outside Quote
gratefulnat Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 (edited) My first concert was Santana in 1982, I don't know what my parents were thinking letting a 12 year old go to a concert. But I'm glad they did because it was rocking. Elton John, Prince, Neil Young & Crazy Horse, Rita Marley and the Wailers, Alpha Blondy, ZZ Top, Pink Floyd, John Mayall, and many, many more I don't remember I was lucky enough to grab tickets to see the amazing Led Zeppelin in Knebworth 1979 - still ranks as one of the best nights of my life thus far. Even though I was only 9 years old at the time, I'm very jealous. It must have been mind bending... wasn't that their last concert with John Bonham? You know who put on a good show? What did you do in your spare time all those years without LEGO? I never saw Phish. I was never on that many drugs. Phish I saw probably about 6/7 times, starting out when they were still unknown. I remember one show, at college, with about 30 to 40 people and the band. We had all (the band as well) eaten mushroom Pizza and we rocked all night. This must have been in 1988 or 1989... A few years later (1994/5 ?) I saw them for the last time, about 30'000 people somewhere in CT or MA. My favorite band is the Grateful Dead, and I was lucky to see them continually throughout spring 1989 until fall 1990. That was a psychedlic blast. Now that I'm older (and slightly more mature) and a parent, over the last ten years I haven't been to one concert... Edited June 23, 2013 by gratefulnat Quote

Yeah, the show was pretty awesome. Jimmy Page's riffs were particularly potent, I remember. Led Zep is one of the few bands I know in which every member is one of the best in the world at what they play. No, I believe they managed one final tour in 1980, a couple of months before Bonham's death. Knebworth wasn't part of a tour, although, it was just a one-off event. Quote
