Junpei Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 I was looking for suitable technic wheels for my moc, and when I was going through the list, I found this piece. When I saw it, I remembered that I have one in white, so I clicked the lots for sale thing to see if it was worth anything because in the parentheses (after "lots for sale"), there was only a 1. I looked and there is only one for sale. In the whole world. For 44 freakin' dollars! Forty-four dollars. What the hell. I know this is from the ucs y-wing, but only one? And for 44 dollars in used condition, with 1/3 of it sunburned? That is just outrageous! Does anyone know why there is only 1 for sale and why it is so expensive? Quote
jimmynick Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 The piece only appeared in white in the UCS Y-wing fighter from a few years ago. A great many more sets had the part in metallic silver. The price for the part in metallic silver is just over $2. My best guess is that there aren't many of the piece on the market, since it only appeared in one set. If you look at the price records, you'll see that $44 is relatively cheap for this part. So buy it now if it's what you need, because there isn't a ready supply. Quote
jFox Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 Does anyone know why there is only 1 for sale and why it is so expensive? Supply and demand, basically. If it's the only one for sale the seller can charge whatever for it in the hopes someone REALLY wants it. Same principle for the UCS Millennium Falcon and its unique radar dish, and the light bluish gray rigging pieces on the back. Unique to the set, selling for a silly amount of money nowadays. Quote
LEGO Historian Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 (edited) $44 in white... only 1 available... and $2 for a metallic silver... dozens available.... Sounds like a good time to try out some white modeling spray paint to complete that model.... Edited May 31, 2013 by LEGO Historian Quote
Junpei Posted May 31, 2013 Author Posted May 31, 2013 Well I'm not actually building a model with the white ones, but I am really not sure why they get bought up. And LEGO Historian, I would never even think of using spray paint. Sadly, I am a purist, so I just can't do that. Quote
Luke_likes_Lego Posted June 1, 2013 Posted June 1, 2013 Sounds like a good time to try out some white modeling spray paint to complete that model.... Malevolence !!! Crime against LEGO LLL Quote
LEGO Historian Posted June 2, 2013 Posted June 2, 2013 .... well then you won't want to know what I did with some old classic LEGO windows.... I've got thousands of old classic LEGO windows... and among them were a few hundred "glass-less" and miscolored ones that were of no use in building.... except when I got an exact match to ABS black color.... http://www.bricklink...P=29&colorID=11 http://www.bricklink...7026&colorID=11 I use "repainted" windows in a few of my buildings. However, I make sure to always leave some of the back sides to these unpainted... so that they won't be mistaken on the secondary market, should something ever happen to me. Quote

I used to respect you (just kidding). Joe Edited June 2, 2013 by bjtpro Quote
Legogal Posted June 2, 2013 Posted June 2, 2013 Highway robbery is no fun. No way we would pay rip off prices for any part, and I have never sold LEGO anywhere. We rarely spray paint anything Lego, but have done it a lot to get Playmobil in colors I like. Last time I checked, it was a relatively free world out there, so who cares? Quote
Erik Leppen Posted June 2, 2013 Posted June 2, 2013 Why don't you sell your white wheel, buy four silver wheels for your car (or whatever you are building) and spend the remaining 36 dollars for something you always wanted :) Quote
