Kai NRG Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 I'm not a fan of it, but I agree with Oky that it probably just needs to be given a chance. If I were using it for non-LEGO related stuff the new layout is a bit more geared toward focusing on the pictures. As it is I liked the text without having to mouse over the picture, but I can get used to that and if I can't, adding ?details=1 to any photostream URL changes it back to the old view but retains the cover photo. What's worst is the homepage, not enough white space and too many things to look at at a time. That and the very small amount of displayed comments are probably the worst things. Quote
jimmynick Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 The photostreams have all the photographs bunched up horribly, and it's difficult to focus on just one photo when there are so many surrounding it and distracting you. The interface for groups seems to be the same, though, which is not bad. Navigating between images took me a few moments to work out (why do the arrows only show up when you hover near them?) Quote
Grimmbeard Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 I think it's fine, though I have a free account so I can't speak for the pros. However the only problem I have is that I cannot drag photos from imgur into Flickr, or perhaps that just doesn't work? Quote
Brickdoctor Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 The new free space is nice of course, but a little annoying for me since I payed for a two-year pro account less than a year ago which is pretty much pointless now. I thought they were giving recent Pro account buyers a chance to downgrade back to a free account and get a refund? Quote
tedbeard Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 And why can you only use recent uploads as your cover photo? Pretty annoying for sure. I was able to force a picture into whatever "recent" algorithm they use for cover photos by updating the description. I tried again and it was available in the choices when it had not been before. Yeah, or you can just click the Edit button. It's good that they still give you the option to switch to that view. And I agree with all your other complaints. I thought they were giving recent Pro account buyers a chance to downgrade back to a free account and get a refund? Yeah, looks like they do, but it seems that a Pro account is still better than a free one since you get unlimited storage, no ads, and more detailed stats, so I guess I'll just keep my Pro account until it expires. Pretty annoying for sure. I was able to force a picture into whatever "recent" algorithm they use for cover photos by updating the description. I tried again and it was available in the choices when it had not been before. I tried that, but the picture I wanted to use still didn't show up. Oh well. Quote
just2good Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 I don't like it either. It freezes up frequently, is hard to navigate through the uploader, harder to deeplink, and looks like a social network. I don't get why it's trying to compete with Facebook or Instagram. I mean, what the heck? Quote

Well, Flickr is a social network of sorts (a place to connect with like-minded people), even if it's not affiliated with Facebook, and since Instagram is popular, I guess they decided to emulate that design. Makes sense for the most part to me, even if I may not like it. Quote

I'm pretty sure that that is the complaint; that flickr used to be the image sharing site that didn't seem like another social networking site and was more focused towards photographers. But it's easy to see how Yahoo wanted to change that to attract more people. Quote
BrickG Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 I don't use it but as a designer I know some things. First off, almost 100% of the time a new design is made it's hated. The question is if people get used to it and eventually stop complaining or even like it later without you suffering traffic loss. People hate change. Even logical and good change. I'm not saying this change they make is either but usually it's good to wait a bit to see if the hate sticks or melts away. Quote
