WesternOutlaw Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 I realize this is not a Lego topic, but I've been working on a Playmobil Western Adventure for a few weeks now, and wanted to share it with all of the Lego/Playmobil fans on Eurobricks. I'm not active on Playmobil forums. The adventure is called 5 Miles to Deadwood which is sort of a visual interactive "Who-Dun-It". I asked Brick Miner to be the first person to review it as he is a Western fan (thanks BM). I'm not the best Web Master, but this was my attempt to cross web design with pictures, story, and mystery. The CLUE is all about clicking in the right spot on the images. If you're interested, check out the site, and leave feedback if you will. This sort of thing could easily be incorporated with Lego images. Link here: 5 Miles to Deadwood. Enjoy! Quote
Starwars4J Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 Very interesting and well done. I got stuck as to where to click after I purchased the gun though :-P I'll try it again when I don't have an exam I'm procrastinating from Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted February 19, 2007 Governor Posted February 19, 2007 Ahhhhhhhhhh a game! Games are fun! Is there any particular you didn't make this using LEGO though? Quote
ChrisF2006 Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 After the 2nd page I get an error saying Not FoundThe requested URL /govman4/_vti_bin/shtml.exe/PgMountain.htm/map was not found on this server. :-( :'-( :-( Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted February 19, 2007 Author Posted February 19, 2007 Good question Phes. I'm in Playmobil Western mode right now. I broke out my WW Playmobil town awaiting a few new Playmobil western sets. My next one may be a Lego mystery in the same fashion. What I like about Playmobil is that I don't have to spend hours building each set plus the props are more abundant (hills/mountains, cacti, buildings, etc). See if you can solve the Who-Dun-It. Please don't share the solution on this thread though. Quote
Brick Miner Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 :-D this is really fun... it's like the first video game i've played in years :-D the beginning reminds me of oregon trail... if only you had to do some hunting :-P it's also like a choose-your-own-adventure book, and those are a neat idea too... but just like them, it's also frustrating when you make the wrong choice or get stuck |-/ i don't know what to do next |-/ and i still don't know who the murderer is :'-( -------------------------------------------------- BTW, this is a great way to "review" the playmobile WW sets. i think they are fantastic toys in that they really get me inspired to build some WW legos *y* there are some really neat things PM did with the theme. - BrickMiner Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted February 19, 2007 Author Posted February 19, 2007 Thanks for the feedback BM. You know I had to include some "secret places" and clues within the various pages, otherwise, it would be too easy. If you don't know who the murderer is yet, you probably have not gone to all the places yet. After the 2nd page I get an error saying :-( :'-( :-( I don't understand this error. Sounds like most have made it through. Try refreshing the screen when you get to it. Let me know exactly what the image is and what you are clicking before the error appears. Quote
ChrisF2006 Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 It still happens ... I tried it in Internet Explorer and it works fine so it just might be Mozilla. YES it works in IE. Nice story, I like it. Quote

Athos Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 Are we supposed to discover gold in the mine? And if so, how? Steve Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted February 21, 2007 Author Posted February 21, 2007 Are we supposed to discover gold in the mine? And if so, how?Steve No, you're suppose to figure out who killed Molly. Clues are hidden in various places as well as instructions to solve the "who-dun-it". Quote
Norrington Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 I think I know who did it... but how do you solve the mystery? As in how do I talk too to get the guy arrested? Also, was the Paco guy saying "When ever I saw her I said no excuse me, but Es-squese me" a dirty joke, or implying that Molly Brown also would provide 'Alternate entertainent" for the right price? I figured that part out, but I got a message about how we still don't know if there was gold in the mine and thought I'd missed part of the mystery. Anyhow, very cool little game. I'd like to see one done out of Lego. Everything is about murder mysteries with you, isn't it? Steve Quote

There's a person who will help you if you can find him. The "Esqueeze Me" joke was just something I heard several years ago in Mexico. Nothing dirty intended, but just something I had remembered that I thought was funny. OK. I figured that part out, but I got a message about how we still don't know if there was gold in the mine and thought I'd missed part of the mystery. You solved the mystery. Good job, but you never know... Perhaps a Part 2. Anyhow, very cool little game. I'd like to see one done out of Lego. Thanks, I wanted to do a pic review of the various sets, but thought this might be a little more fun to explore the WW Playmobil collection. My next one may be Lego-related. Everything is about murder mysteries with you, isn't it?Steve Now what makes you say that? Not really, it was intended to be more a western adventure, but as I started writing the story line, it quickly turned into a "Who-Dun-It". I suppose it just depends on the mood I'm in. Thanks for the feedback. If it's not too much trouble, would you try commenting on the page. Email address is not required. Quote
Berry Syedow Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 Interesting Playmobil/western game, Brickster. I had a rather fun time playing through it. (although I've gotten to the point where the murderer is revealed, but is he supposed to be arrested?) The photography was top notch; did you use a tripod? Do you have any recommendations for photographing MOCs, incorporating the right lighting, and whatnot? I can also see why you went the Playmobil route, since building all of that from scratch would have been quite an undertaking. What theme are you considering covering in your next story? Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted February 24, 2007 Author Posted February 24, 2007 Interesting Playmobil/western game, Brickster. I had a rather fun time playing through it. (although I've gotten to the point where the murderer is revealed, but is he supposed to be arrested?) I've received a few questions regarding HOW to solve the mystery. I don't want to spoil it for those of you who have not solved it, but the final CLUE resides inside the Gold Mine. Find Sheriff McDonald within the Gold Mine, and he will provide you the last CLUE to solve the mystery. The photography was top notch; did you use a tripod? Do you have any recommendations for photographing MOCs, incorporating the right lighting, and whatnot? I can also see why you went the Playmobil route, since building all of that from scratch would have been quite an undertaking. Thanks. I used my "not so-good camera" which is a Sony Cybershot T7. I purchased this because of the size. It fits in your pocket making it great when you're traveling. To tell you the truth though, I'm not impressed with the photo-qualityas much as my older Sony Cybershot which is just a 2.1 Megapixel. As far as tips go, I think it's all based on the camera you use, but I set mine on detail, but I only use Email/Tif size image which takes a lot less time to upload over the web. The detail is just as good, but the image not as large. 640x480 is the image size that I like. I tried to use a lamp for extra lighting, but I got a shadow no matter what I did. I do like to use the flash though which makes the color much more vivid (shadow is the only problem that you can see in some of the first few images). I have a tripod, but don't bother using. I just hold the camera and snap. In addition, these are all the original images with no photo-editing. Editing takes way too long when you have this many images. The 1st image or banner on the 1st screen has been edited though just to change the background. What theme are you considering covering in your next story? Not sure, I may make a better Part II to this (or) maybe make a Lego-themes mystery/adventure of some kind. Just not sure what I want to do yet. I need a lot of sets that I don't have built right now. I'll let you know when I start working on it though. Let me know if the final clue is what you needed. Quote
Norrington Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 Thanks for the tip about the sheriff in the mine. I just finished. Good job brickster, Now you have the obligation to do a pirate game like this... Quote
