Tariq j Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 Should I get the sith nightspeeder of tie fighter? Tie fighter: This is the bigger set with more figures however I don't have the x-wing, so there's nothing to combind it with. Nightspeeder: It's smaller but it comes with ventress and savage, two great figures who I really want also the CW is apparantly stopping so it's unlikely we will se them again. What should I get? Quote
Im a brickmaster. Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 I'd say the night speeder. You don't find older sets too often and it does have some amazing minifigs. Save the TIE for s@h Quote
smithnb42 Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 I was a huge fan of Lego when I was a kid. I asked for every set that came out and had mountains of bricks. Sadly all of which had been given away or sold at some point. :-( I have now become an Adult Fan and have Purchased a couple of Creator sets, just recently the new Creator Family House set with light brick and also the Lego Town Hall Modular. My question is this. Are the Castle sets and Monster Fighter sets worth looking into as well? What are some sets to buy that can build my collection of general building bricks? Thanks for the help Mike Quote
TomLego Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 (edited) I don't know how to word this, and I really don't want to offend or insult anyone, but I stick to Lego sets that have (for lack of a better way of saying it) a more adult appearance or theme (if that's even possible with Lego :-) I have the modular buildings, all of the architecture series and some of the creator series. As an adult, you would probably enjoy the architecture series. Especially the a Frank Lloyd Wright buildings with their detail and high piece count. You should definitely get the 4000+ piece Tower Bridge before its retired. The Sydney Opera house will be released within the next several days (to VIP) members. That's also a 'must have'. Since I'm an old guy with no children in the household, I try to stick to what at least appear to be the more mature themes. Even though I was in line to see the first Star Wars movie on the day it was released in 1977, I. don't have any interest in that theme. Of course, to each his on. The most important thing is to buy what you like and not what others think you should buy. Don't go by the age on the box. Go by what appeals to you. I can't address how to accumulate general building bricks. I buy what I like and keep it assembled. The only thing I bought for the bricks was the Haunted House. I liked the green color of the bricks and converted it to a modular building. Edited August 13, 2013 by TomLego Quote
Kivi Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 Welcome to the AFOLdom. Are the Castle sets and Monster Fighter sets worth looking into as well? As TomLego has already addressed it, there is no simple 'yes' or 'no' answer. Everyone likes everything else, so get what you like. Perhaps you should check the reviews of the sets first and maybe it would be easier to decide then. What are some sets to buy that can build my collection of general building bricks? I assume you mean basic bricks, plates, slopes, tiles, doors, windows etc.? The best source of these parts are creator sets and modulars. Tower Bridge and Haunted House are also a good source of such parts. You can always check the inventories of these sets on Bricklink to see exactly what's in there. Quote
eurotrash Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 What are some sets to buy that can build my collection of general building bricks? I'm not sure how recently you've rediscovered Lego, but if you want to build up your collection of bricks then Bricklink as Kivi mentioned is a great place to start. It is, quite possibly, the most dated looking website out there, but it's crucially important and rather than buy sets to build up a collection you can buy individual specific pieces. Check it out and deal with a respected BL store (one with plenty of positive reviews and plenty of inventory.) Quote
TheLegoDr Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 Smithnb42 - everyone has their interest. I like most licensed themes and the modular sets, but don't really care for the architecture sets. The monster fighter sets were fun and give a great classic Hollywood vibe (or for me out was my childhood Monster Squad), but they are discontinued in a lot of places do they may be hard to find for you. GandalfofHoth Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 I'm struggling to decide between 70001 Crawley's Claw Ripper and 70004 Wakz' Pack Tracker, any ideas, I could go either way. Quote
FuzzyBallz Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 (edited) Hey guys !! can someone please tell me some advice becoz at monday planing to buy a Lego set and the lego's l was interested were: 1)Lego Star Wars 9488 2)Hero Factory Brain Attack stormer Eh any advice which set would be best for me to buy ?? I have the 9488, the clone troopers are really well made, great prints on the helmet and torso of both. Didn't really care for the cannon or the battle droids. Never got into the Hero Factory type stuff, but these giant LEGO figures don't look half bad if you're using them for display. I think you get more wow out of the Hero Factory Stormer compared to the Star Wars battle pack. I'm struggling to decide between 70001 Crawley's Claw Ripper and 70004 Wakz' Pack Tracker, any ideas, I could go either way. 70004 Wakz' Pack Tracker easily. It does cost 2x more than the 70001, but you get 3 better figures and a vehicle that has the spring loaded shooter! Edited August 17, 2013 by FuzzyBallz Quote
Legofan225 Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 Thank's FuzzyBallz for the great advice Quote
GandalfofHoth Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 (edited) Thanks for the advice FuzzyBallz, I was leaning toward this set, so I'm glad to get conformation. Edited August 17, 2013 by GandalfofHoth Quote
FuzzyBallz Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 (edited) Oh man, my shopping list is crazy this quarter, but I just decided to add another couple sets to the list. I've already decided on getting the VW T1 Camper in September, then Star Wars BARC Speeder and Desert Skiff in mid September. Technic 42008 in October and I've decided to get 2 Batman sets in mid October as well, one being Artic Batman Vs. Mr. Freeze, but can't decide whether to get the Dynamic Duo Funhouse or Bat Vs. Bane Tumbler chase. I like how the funhouse has 5 awesome minifigs, but the other set has The Bat from Dark Knight Rises. It's old school batman vs. new school. Decisions! (I'm undecided on the whole Minecraft sets thing now) Edited August 24, 2013 by FuzzyBallz Quote
TheLegoDr Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 FuzzyBallz - I really recommend the Funhouse personally. I own both of those and the Bat and Tumbler look great and the figures are awesome, but the Funhouse has 5 great figures plus some neat play features. The ultimate question is, to play or display. I have both of my sets still put together, so it is a toss up. If you can keep your eye out, the Bat Vs Bane Chase set has been on clearance around here at Targets for about 30% off. Compare that to an exclusive set that I have only seen on Shop @ Home. Quote
FuzzyBallz Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 Good advice LegoDr. I think the old school look of the Funhouse batman will match really well with that of the Arctic batman. I see sales at Target sometimes, but not always. Looks like I'll just wait a little bit then. Quote
Tariq j Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 Hi, should I get the ewok village or all three minecraft sets, the village comes with more playability features but the minecraft sets are more modular. Quote
kinggregus Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 Hi, first time I am coming here. I quit smoking 3 months ago and as a little perk, I told myself I d buy a large Lego. I am hesitating between the Sydney Opera House or all the Lone Rangers sets. Which set(s) should offer the bigger building time? I'll probably buy all of them at some points but I do not know which one to get over the weekend. I am also balanced by the fact that the lone ranger sets would probably go on sale soon but it will also be double VIP points in October for the Sydney Opera house. Thanks PS I am now living in the UK Quote
Tariq j Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 Definitely the village. Thanks I'll probably get in my next bluewater visit. Kinggregus: Thats a tough one I've seen pics of the SOH and it is spectacular, the lone ranger sets on the other hand are nice as well I've got the train chase and the mine and they are brilliant sets, however it depends: are you a lone ranger/western fan or do you prefer architecture sets? Quote
kinggregus Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 : are you a lone ranger/western fan or do you prefer architecture sets? That s exactly where my dilema is. I am really found of western but I find the Sydney Opera to be stunning. I really don t know which one to get and which one will provide the best building experience. Quote
FuzzyBallz Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 (edited) kinggregus Honestly, if you want building experience, I think you'll get better value out of the SOH simply due to the large piece count and a conversation show piece when you're finished. Lone Ranger and typical licensed sets are simply toys to me and offer no extraordinary attributes that set them apart from other licensed LEGO sets. No offense to LEGO fans who love licensed sets of course. Tariq j I was contemplating whether to get the the Minecraft sets last month and came to the conclusion that unless you're a Minecraft fan, they really offer nothing special. Heck, you get more fun out of the Creator Log Cabin, and it's cheaper! That's when I decided to put my money back on Technic sets and show piece Creator sets. Getting the VW T1 Van on the 1st! Very excited. Edited August 29, 2013 by FuzzyBallz Quote
Commissioner Gordon Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 Hello I am a lego batman fan and am looking to get either the batmobile two face chase or the batcave, ( hopefully both in the long run), but which should I get first? Quote
TheRedGuy Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 Which of the modulars is the best choice? Quote
Faefrost Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 Which of the modulars is the best choice? Fire Brigade is probably the one that will be retired any time now, and it is one of the best Modulars. Just a great mix of details, architectural design, fun build, and such. It would be my first choice if starting getting them today. Next up would be Grand Emporium as the next oldest. It has a great exterior and lots of details on the ground floor. The upper floors are a little empty feeling and can feel a bit repetitive to build, but it is gorgeous. (Plus it s dirt simple to add more merchandise to the upper floors.) The Pet Shop is such a dense detail rich little pair of buildings. It may be the single best build of he currently available sets. Just so many neat things to it. I would put he FB ahead of it just because of assumed looming retirement. Quote
