cheeze Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 Hi Guys, i thought i would show some of the progress i've made on my first real proper MOC, now please excuse some of the images as my camera battery was dead so ive got them as best as i could.. Ive tried to keep this to scale for the minifigs, but with the full size boom in 1/40th scale at almost 2.5m long without a luffing jib i just dont have the space or the funds just now. This must be the 3rd edition of this crane ive tried and settled on that im happy with, im still waiting on some parts to replace some temp pieces and more counterweights (4 of at 250g each) Unfortunately this is not motorized on any aspect just yet, but i have looked into it for the future, so all the winch drums are sprung loaded so you have to push them in to unwind/wind. I will add more decent images once i find the battery charger so please bear with them First few images are the 2nd evo of the model Quote
timslegos Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 Warm welcome to Eurobricks! Nice use of those City trusses, they look great in crane form. tim Quote
rumpletump Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 Looks Good You have put nice attention in the small details as well as the overall function.. keep it up. Quote
DLuders Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 @ cheeze: I am wondering how much weight the boom can lift, since the truss pieces (that came with the Lego City 7632 Crawler Crane set) are connected with Technic Axles in the longitudinal direction. The top chord pieces (formed by many 64448 "Support 1 x 6 x 5 Girder Rectangular" parts) start to pull apart under heavy load: Quote
Edwin Korstanje Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 Welcome at EB, That's a stunning crane you make  Quote
Someonenamedjon Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 Warm welcomes to Eurobricks! That thing looks huge! Can you have a size comparison to another size or even yourself? Quote
TimH Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 Hi cheeze, and welcome to the Eurobricks community. Very nice Crane. Quote
lukeandahalf Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 (edited) Love the crane! I was also wondering if the "Support 1 x 6 x 5 Girder Rectangular" can handle heavy the loads? Great colour scheme as well Edited March 17, 2013 by lukeandahalf Quote
cheeze Posted March 5, 2013 Author Posted March 5, 2013 Hey thanks for the replys folk. regarding the amount of weight the boom can lift isn't something I have tried yet. I didn't want to go down the road of gluing them together but I have thought of it. at the moment it's just tied together with thickish string. Regarding the size of it at the moment from floor to the top of the boom is about 1.7m. but it could go bigger as the real crane with the rear derrick can go to over the 100m mark depending on other aspects Quote
dvsntt Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 I absolutly love it and am very envious of you for owning it. Quote
cheeze Posted March 5, 2013 Author Posted March 5, 2013 Evening again guys, after some of you asking what weight could be lifted with this boom without glue With the weights on the ballast wagon it lifted my 1.4kg cordless driver, which isnt bad for only 500g of ballast, with a few more partings on the hook that may also up the lift weight So some images or it never happened lol you can see the 3 axles at the top for each of the winch drums the sprung loaded drums the heavy lift the proof Quote
Someonenamedjon Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 WOW! Thats huge, and the weight it can lift! Quote
cheeze Posted May 18, 2013 Author Posted May 18, 2013 Bit of an update to this model now, Ive added a few motors to make her fully powered 2xl motors for tracks 1xl running via gearbox for selection of each winch 1 med for slewing Ive also upped the lift weight so far to 3kg which for a boom only really held with string cant be bad. Now also running a 4 parted hook i would have liked 8 parting but its got 10 meters of string on it so far for 4!! Ive also bought a 8053 mobile crane so you can see for the size comparison So on with the images please excuse them in not to hot at the photos Quote
Doc_Brown Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 (edited) Such a stunning crane! It looks fantastic, you did a great job on it, well done. The amount of weight it can lift is awesome! Edited May 18, 2013 by Doc_Brown Quote
