Sorry if this was already posted somwhere in this gigantic forum, but I'm so not going to read all that to check looool

I talked to my Lego dealer yesterday and I was amazed to see that all the Duplo Pirate sets were on sale !! She told me that TLC will stop that line because it was not selling. I was pretty shocked at that news since all the other toy brands have a pirate line after all !!

Oh well, my only interrogation is regarding the future of a MF line if you catch my drift hehe !!

Cheers

Xwingyoda posting in the pirate forum? This is outrageous as Vader posting in the Pirate forum which happened in this thread last week if you missed it! :-D But thank you all the same for taking the time to post this information because its news to me, although I don't really follow the non SYSTEM Pirate themes.

Other brands are targeting their Pirate product towards children 7 years and older, whereas it seems The LEGO Group is "shooting in the dark" in an attempt to find a niche that doesn't exist. There's obviously an existing SYSTEM Pirate LEGO fan base so my logic dictates that they should capitalise on this.

So now The LEGO Group has marketed Pirates towards the 2+ and 4+ age groups, can we have a decent SYSTEM Pirate theme, please?

Where is the world going to ? :-D

I, like all of you really hope to as well !! However I am afraid that since TLC failed miserably in their piraty reintroduction (4+ and Duplo) it could very well mean that they will drop the whole pirate theme altogether !!

Also, bear in mind that the viking theme did not seem too popular as well (only a few sets and gone), so this could mean that the "historical" (in a wide sense) themes are not selling well :-/

Lets all join hands and pray together :-D

Well they've had several rounds of it, so I'll say it's doing pretty well. Did 4+ Pirates really fail? Badly?

I think the Viking line did well but they just got rid of it to make way for new and better things. (one of them hopefully later being hopefully pirates) X-D

Actually, I'm not sure if the 4+ failed but there was never a second round so whether that's was an indication of poor success or maybe The LEGO Group intended it that way.

What of Knights Kingdom though? That appears to be a Historic theme despite its futuristic elements, so do we know how well that sells?

IMO, KK has major characters !! Kids nowadays need background stories and "real" characters instead of generic figs.

As far as I'm aware all the 4+ had names and character biographies on LEGO.com - I don't think there were any generic characters.

Even the SYSTEM Pirates had fairly significant characters like Captain Roger/Red Beard and Governor Broadside which were mentioned in the LEGO catalogues but were further explored in the Pirate Comic and Ladybird Book Series.

Current strategic focus group sessions reveal a niche for primo pirates as it was their absence which ruined the duplo effort, which in turn ruined the 4+ effort... X-D X-D

Is any of this post serious Mr Norro?

What's "primo pirates"?

I believe "promo"-tion pirates is the suggested word.
:-D :-D :-D i think norror meant primo pirates... referring to the next age group LEGO caters to (ages 6-24 months) going down sequentially from juniors (4+).

he was making a joke, it was hilarious ;-)

--------------------------------------------------

as to the topic, i think it's sad... the duplo line was much more fun than the juniors line. and it was better conceived and followed through on. not that i was interested in purchasing them, but i think they were a good product.

i do agree with phes.. it does seem like the 1-4 years age group is way off for pirates (at least here in the states). i would think 11-16 years would be the target pirate kids (not counting the adult market that is ;-) ).

I'd go even younger, say 8-16...
