8043 B Model

hey guys , Im new to the forums but im 30 and have loved technic since i was akid and i especially love the b model of the 8043 , its playability is amazing but its looks arent the best so ive decided to tweak it some. Heres what ive done so far. modded the cab to make it beeger and more proportionate. and added some panels here and there to try and clean it up some...next up will be the boom but im not sure how to approach that yet. anyway heres some pics

Thanks, photography and cars are my other 2 main hobbies but these were shot with a Nikon D4 and 24-70 2.8 G

I couldn't either so I bought 2 so I could have them both up at the same time plus I got tons of left over parts now because this model uses much less pieces.

I built it from my second 8043, it's not very exciting and not as nice as the a-model. It's also drives way too fast.

For anyone that has 8043, built jurgens ultimate 8043 it's amazing :)

one i build model A.

one i build model B

one i build the ultimate excavator that i just finish.

Now, i just need to find a way to use all three models (with my kids) without the Ir controller interfering with each other....any ideas???

@ piolo: The Lego Power Functions infrared signals have a maximum range of 10 meters (33 feet). You can keep them separate (so that they can play simultaneously); there are only 4 different channels.

A nice B model. I have rarely built any B modesl of any lego set I've ever had. I've just dug out some old instruction manuals and am thumbing through the B models. If I had that model I don't think I would take it apart. You just can't do it with some.

HAHA! i have 3 also.. 2 for the A and B model and 1 unopened in the basement for reasale in a few years. I also have 2 unopened unimogs in the basement

Go ahead, take it apart and build B. It works great, you'll love it. Trust me, you'll miss out if you don't, it's a great fun model.

Eventually you'll want to turn it back into A because it just looks so good. Don't worry about the build time that that'll take you; first of all, it goes quicker the second time, and secondly, don't you remember it was fun to build it?

PS. Some time ago someone posted instructions for a 8043C model, I haven't built it yet but it looks really nice too.

I've collected about 160 some sets over the past several years, think I have 6 or 7 Unimogs, a couple 8043's, 8 9397 Logging Trucks, 9 9395 Tow Trucks, 4 8070 Supercars, 19 8109 Flatbed Trucks, and many, many other vintage but mostly newer (2007-up, some back to 2003) Technic and few City constructions sets I'd like to unload. There was a huge misunderstanding with BL, both on the seller's and my part, so not sure where I go to market them. I thought about Amazon, does any body have any other ideas on where to market them? On topic, I do agree, the b model of the 8043 is a very nice model, I too did some modifying of the cab, added a led light kit to make it more realistic. It ranks among the best of the b models and is a prize in my built collection. I'm going to try and modify the 42006 with that 3rd mini LA, take off the grabbers and hopefully be able to put a bucket on my 2nd one if its possible to do that.

I bought a lot of 8109's on deals/BOGO 50% sales at TRU, I am actually saving 2 of them, 1 for main model and 1 for alternate model...seemed like a hot item, at least at the time it was released...I planned on opening a store on Amazon as a seller, life's issues have prevented it so far, but I've got tons of stock available, MSRP alone on what I have available is $15,800 according to Brickset. I didn't know EB had a selling section, could you point me to it? I know moderators don't like this sort of thing in this forum...thanks in advance.

You won't be disappointed with the tracked loader, it is probably one of the best b models out there.

@jsg - I really do agree, the 8043 main model is a great display model, but its playability is sub-par at best, the b model tracked loader is a lot more fun and really does look good, I might just take the panels from the main model like was done here.

I put some supports mounted on the front motor (Axle #9, modified 2x2 black plates with pin holes, 90degrees connector and 1x3 liftarms) so that it will somehow be solid. I didn't play in any obstacles, just the flat surface of wooden floors and carpets.

Since you have a extra stud in width why don't you buy your self two L motors?

That would make it a bit stronger as well as adding more power to the tracks.

The tracks were already powered by two M motors and it's already fast.

I'll try to switch to L motors and see how much faster it will go

I'm not sure if I remember correctly, but wasn't that on purpose? I mean the two tracks could slightly blend, to make it possible to adopt to a terrain with small bumps. If you attach the motor to the chasis, then you loose this, because both tracks will be fixed to the chasis.

yes I'm actually thinking of that also. I would just like to confirm if the others have the same experience or maybe I made an error building it or I missed something..

I can take out the 2x2 black plates with pin holes and the tracks will slightly bend as before but not that much..
