Since coming out of dark ages nearly year and a half ago I ventured first into City, then into Space/Star Wars and now into Castle. I had some minifigs left from long time ago plus I aquired the knight from series 9 and my wife bought me the medieval market village for my birthday (I will not be able to open it for another month :( ).

Anyways, I started building a castle and I am torn between a big gate house and a small gate house and if I should cap it with a roof or not...

Thoughts? Suggestions? first pic is with the taller gate house and the latter are with a smaller one (plus the last one shows the lord manor inside the castle).

I am going to put one in the rear in the corner opposite to the manor. My dilemma is should I make the tower taller than gate house, smaller or same....

The small gatehouse matches the size of the rest of the castle better than the large one does, and if you build a smaller gatehouse you won't feel you have to make everything else bigger to compensate, saving you time, bricks and money.

I suggest you use the small one.

Interesting use of differently textured and coloured bricks in the gatehouse! Good luck finishing your castle!

Hmmm I think y'all are right about the smaller gatehouse being a better fit, but I'm having issues building a functional tower in the corner (as in one with either steps or ladders that still allows for a minifig to walk by and fit). This is pointing me towards potentially other solution: two front corner towers, though I think that will get me back to square one: front being big and heavy....

I would go then for 2 back towers and the house in the middle of them :classic:
