Murdoch17 Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 Awesome boxcars! I might just have to try to modify them into black with a red stripe at the base for my railroad. Keep up the good work! Quote
Spitfire2865 Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 Very nice! One big factor with these is the amount of colours avalible. Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 Awesome boxed wagons! The tan version looks great! Quote
Hrw-Amen Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 These look like a nice selection of box cars in different colors I will have to choose one and make it. Quote
DaveBey Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 I was inspired by DaveBey Glad to hear I could inspire you! So how many are you going to make?! What locomotive will you build to pull them? If you have one, 3741 Large Locomotive / 3742 Tender looked really good pulling my reefers and Maersk boxcars. If you want to keep the rungs on the side of the boxcar inline with those on the bogies, you could do something like this: .lxf file Awesome boxcars! I might just have to try to modify them into black with a red stripe at the base for my railroad. All the pieces at both the base level and initial 1x level are all available in red. Unfortunately, some of the parts required are can be expensive. Cheers from Claremore, Oklahoma USA! Dave Quote

Always perfect for all your locomotive haulage needs And back to the topic, - I really like this boxcar design and I can see myself building a couple for use on my own layout. A really useful design IMO. Quote

Dave One of the boxcars will be motorised and push this engine. I will build at least 3 boxcars. Quote
UrbanErwin Posted February 9, 2013 Author Posted February 9, 2013 The first two are done. Both are orange. The first one is driven by PF. (they are shown on 9V track because I was too lazy to search for PF track.) Quote
Spitfire2865 Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 IMO that PF bogie just seems wrong. Though I guess its the only solution. Still nice. Quote

Dan-147 Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 (edited) Yeah If TLC just made one axle motors. With PF M-Motor or XL-Motor mounted in the boxcar and technic axles and gears to route the power down to the bogie and wheels, it could be done. Plus the XL-Motor will out-pull the regular train motor. Dan-147 Edited February 9, 2013 by Dan-147 Quote

Spitfire2865 Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 If youre stuck with a PF train motor, Build a steam loco and mount the motor to the drivers. Though it tends to push the loco a little too fast. Quote

And an American diesel with a pulling/pushing steam engine looks a bit odd to me. And it must look uniform so it will require modification of all bogies. Edited February 10, 2013 by UrbanErwin Quote

You could just design a steam locomotive that was seen in active duty during the later parts of the steam-diesel conversion. And I have one steamer thats powered by a PF bogie connected to the drivers. It pulls a lot for its size so I dont understand what you mean by "powering function" Quote

Spitfire2865 Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 Explain please? I did not follow that... Quote
UrbanErwin Posted February 11, 2013 Author Posted February 11, 2013 (edited) Explain please? I did not follow that... The Idea of boxcars came into my mind when i was building the red and white diesel engine, because I had to power it and there was no space in the Locomotive itself. So i decided to make a Boxcar with the powerfunctions elements. What I meant with the wrong guess is that I love steam engines but I lack of skills. (the steamer shown is mine) I hope this makes everything a bit more clear. Edited February 11, 2013 by UrbanErwin Quote
Spitfire2865 Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 If that steamer is yours, thats really good. Quote
Bamos Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 You could just make the other truck to match and say it has high speed passenger trucks. The trucks and the steam heater line were basically the only difference between an express boxcar and a normal boxcar. Bill Quote
