xenologer Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery....=purplemongoose Someone has some rather nice spaceships in his folder. They remind me a lot of classic space style design. No SNOT, and Plenty of Studs showing. Got me thinking tho, what specific characteristics make them good? Lately I've been trying to plan out a new spaceship project, and I've been stressing over how to structure a Snot cockpit, what slopes I'll have available to transition smoothly between body and wings, etc.... While this guy's designs seem so carefree, and yet very good. Might be something to take a lesson from. What do you think? Quote
Asuka Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 Very nice! His desing is clear and neat, very classical indeed. Wings, cockpit, engines and maybe a cargo bay, some greeble, and that Quote
SuvieD Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 I agree with Asuka in that they are sort of flat. Other than that though I really like these. Simple clean designs that look very classic. Newer parts and some extras along with the studs up look make for some interesting designs not possible with the classics. Build for you, the way you want. Don't worry about what other people think. You can't develop a style if you are copying everyone elses. the second half of 2007 will be a space year for me. I have had a ton of little sketches for ships and mechs stacking up. Once I sell off some excess LEGO I have I will begin my building. Quote
Captain Roger Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 the ships are cool...but the minifigs with castle black falcons torso....hum... in any case grat ships SPACE FOR EVER! Quote
Draykov Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 Not to detract from xenologer's find (or purplemongoose's work), but I think my favorite take on "neo-classic space" comes from Paul Hanson. Quote
xenologer Posted January 31, 2007 Author Posted January 31, 2007 Whoa, thats really good too! Its an interesting comparison. One guy uses old building style with new bricks. One uses new building style (snot, studless) with mostly old bricks Quote
pianodude2494 Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 Well, the ships are nice; quite Classic, but they are a bit too flat. They're rather small, but still pretty good. I'd give 'em a 6.5/10. Nice find! Quote
