davidmull Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 Alasdair it's interesting u like 8436, I have that set mib :) never built it yet. Quote
Jim Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 Well, it does have bad asseness set to 11! It's bodacious, can't deny that Quote
lazylegoist Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 I'm a bit ambivalent about the 8436. I really like the looks, I think it looks very modern and cool. And of course any pneumatic set is cool somehow. It's also a very good parts pack. But the entire model is much too flexy, and I think it should have included an additional small pneumatic cylinder. So far, I've only built it with the claw attachment, and that doesn't work too well IMO. But since I buy sets primarily for their parts, I'm really glad I found a good deal for this on eBay (35€ + shipping, very nice). Quote
Rijkvv Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 8880, hands down. The best supercar ever made (IMHO) and one of the greatest sets of all time. It's one of my top 5 TECHNIC sets. Some other great sets are 8459 and it's re-releases, and 8460 and it's re-releases. Quote
allanp Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 8459 is awesome, IMHO by far the best front end loader they ever made. Quote
Lost_In_Noise Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 Based on what I have on display, I'd say 8053, 8880, 8455. But those are probably my top 3 sets anyways, without the Air Tech Claw Rig. Quote
dhc6twinotter Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 (edited) That would explain the weight issue then..... Dang, that's a low blow! You've seen pictures of me? I'm 6' and weigh 240 pounds. I could definitely lose 50 pounds or so, but that's hardy what I would call a "weight issue". Contrary to what you may think, I eat healthier than the average American, and I've lost some weight in the past few months. I do like my occasional In-N-Out burger, but I don't eat there all the time. It's only been 3 days since my last Double-Double burger! Back on topic, both the 42000 and 42006 sets look pretty good also, although I've yet to build them. Edited January 29, 2013 by dhc6twinotter Quote
DarkShadow73 Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 (edited) That's a pretty easy answer, 8455! Best set of all time and in the top 3 :) I definitely agree, the 8455 is one of the finest and truest to form models ever released by Lego. The 8465/39/64 Pneumatic Front Loader is another true to real life model as well, a must have. The 8285 Tow Truck is another great example. 8459 is awesome, IMHO by far the best front end loader they ever made. Agreed there, it is the finest model of a real-life loader ever produced by TLG. I modified one of 2 I have built with a fork attachment, you see a lot of loaders in freight yards with the bucket off and a forkset for loading pallets and such on trailers, that kind of gave me inspiration to design a forkset, Ice Road Truckers series gave me the idea. I'm a bit ambivalent about the 8436. I really like the looks, I think it looks very modern and cool. And of course any pneumatic set is cool somehow. It's also a very good parts pack. But the entire model is much too flexy, and I think it should have included an additional small pneumatic cylinder. But since I buy sets primarily for their parts, I'm really glad I found a good deal for this on eBay (35€ + shipping, very nice). I really like the 8436 as well, pneumatics are touchy on just about every model that includes them. I saw someone posted about the 8460 below, that crane is another excellent example, glad I got one last year. Edited January 31, 2013 by TechnicFreak Quote
dvsntt Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 One of my favorites sets is 8288. I love all the wokring rigging, adjustable boom, and weight distrubtion. Quote
Lakop Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 I'm ashamed to say I don't own any of them (yet) but I want them all. I would want 8258 and 8455, 42006 is like a refined 8043. 8421 looks to be god of all technic lego cranes. Some serious models out there with a good parts selection which is important for what else you can create. H Quote
Kumbbl Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 By far in this sequence: 1. 8880 and 8455 - both with own strength... 2. 8459 (based on my assumption that models like 8421 are subsumed by "PF") Models like 8053 and 8265 (and some others) for me never can be "best models without PF" because these models needs essentially support by motorizing - otherwise playability is lousy.... DarkShadow73 Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 (edited) I think the obvious ones are 8285,and all of the supercars except 8070. What are some other ones? You are right there, the 8285 and 8070 are great even w/o the pf elements, of course the 8285 was released about 2 yrs before PF came into play. Other favorites are the 8421, it did have the old style battery box and motor from the 8287 motor kit but they were easily removed. Other notables w/o PF: 8455 Backhoe Loader, 8439/59/64 Front End Loader, 8448 Supercar, 8446 Crane Truck, 8466 4x4 Off-Roader, 8446 Crane Truck just to name a few, all of those are in my collection. Problem is most sets that don't have PF included, it is almost mandatory to add them, otherwise lots of winding of gear knobs and sore fingers, aka 8295 Telehandler and 8265 Front Loader to name a few, and the 9396 Helicopter, it just isn't the same w/o PF. As Kumbbl said the 8053 Crane is another that needs PF. Edited February 7, 2013 by TechnicFreak Quote
Paul B Technic Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 My votes have changed now, I would say 8448 would be right at the top of my list now as would 42000 and 8461 (Sports Car) Quote
Matt The Tuba Guy Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 Out of the sets I own, my favourite non motorised sets would have to be: 8880:Supercar (1994) after hearing about it a lot and how great it was even though it was relatively old, I got one for myself, and I definitely agree it is an amazing set! 9396: Helicopter (2012) looks amazing, possibly one of the best looking Technic sets! The functions are pretty cool too. 8069: Backhoe Loader (2011) small but functional, makes great use of the mini linear actuators. 8466: 4X4 Offroader (2001) highest rating of my sets on Brickshelf. generally great set, HUUUUGE tyres!
