highlandcattle Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 As a medieval lego lord, my shire is having trouble finding serfs that actually get some work done, the countryside is always roaming with black falcons, vikings and power rangers that never do anything, except loot for crop. So I went to ye olde bricklink and looked for the cheapest serf and this is what I came up with: What did that lovely torso cost me? Only $0.18. Much cheaper then the classic farmer! the entire fig only cost me 0.73 dollar. Aint that cheap! I naturally bought two. I which lego would make more farmers. Got any cheaper serfs for me? Quote
Chuck Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 I actually find the tan jedi robes to be cheaper serfs. They are way more common, and this torso only comes in one set. Also, I'd use different legs if I were you ;-) -l2k- Quote
Athos Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 Dobby is also a good figure for making peasants (albeit ratty haggard ones) and his head can be used to make goblin hordes to harass the peasants. I also agree the Jedi robes work well too. Steve Quote

I actually really dislike the jedi robes for medieval minifigs. Those look absolutely nothing like something a middleager in western-europe .For arabs maybe, but not for serfs or lords. Quote

Those look absolutely nothing like something a middleager in western-europe .For arabs maybe, but not for serfs or lords. I'm actually not a big fan of the blue legs either. They don't match well with the dirty and whethered tunic of your peasant. I do like this tunic (I have several of them), however one must have variety when populating their medieval village (even if the wardrobe is less than ideal). An army of these guys is probably going to be overkill. Personally, I find that a number of the Star Wars torsos are sufficiently non-discript, making them ideal peasant torsos. The same can be said of the Dolby torso and a few others. While they may not be perfect, they certainly get the job done. And I don't think that Star Wars torsos are any better for Arabs. The same inaccuracies are present, but again the Jedi robes are so generic that they can be used for a wide variety of figs. Quote
Minifig Lecturer Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 Peasants in the Middle Ages wouldn't wear colourful clothes (unless they stole them) as colour was only for the rich (especially purple do to the cost of making the dyes) So I think you should change the blue to cheap white or cream/brown (cream would be more a dirty white :-) got by toiling in the fields ) Nevertheless I think you got a bargain here. It is an idea and I will probably buy your find! Quote
Norro Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 I wasn't aware that torso was so affordable, I don't have even one yet... Thanks for sharing and God Bless, Nathan Quote

I really like that torso, but i always thought i was expensive....i will add it on my 'wanted' list on bricklink now. :-) Thanks for sharing. Quote
exo attack Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 I prefer the dobby rags or farmer one highland cattle found. I think the robes don't go well for peasents/serfs Quote

It seems some german sellers have stumbled on a pile of stock , a lot of them are selling it cheaply Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted January 27, 2007 Eurobricks Emperor Posted January 27, 2007 I had never even seen this torso before. I guess prices will be going up now... In which set was it? Quote
blueandwhite Posted January 28, 2007 Posted January 28, 2007 I had never even seen this torso before.I guess prices will be going up now... In which set was it? Try this one This guy was only available in the Monster Studios set, 1381. Generally, considering its relative obscurity, its pretty easy to pick this one up for good and cheap. If your into castle, and you don't have any of these, I would recommend picking up a few while they are still around at a good price. Later. Quote
KMOI Posted January 28, 2007 Posted January 28, 2007 Hmm, just a small question. If that torso was only avaliable through that set, wouldn't it be more expensive, considering the size of the set? Sorry if I'm asking the obvious here. I've recently grown a liking of medeval LEGO sets! :-) Quote

KMOI Posted January 28, 2007 Posted January 28, 2007 Ah, gotcha. I kinda assumed they stumbled upon a massive stock of the sets, not exactly the figure piece. Afterall, to stumble on a stockpile of that many sets would be incredible! But since it's just the torso part, it all makes sense! Quote

I think maybe Legoland in Germany or Denmark or some place else might have had a mass of these where they were picked up. Especially, German and Dutch BL sellers seemed to have had loads of these. I happen to have quite a few of this torso myself. They were either sold as torso's or complete hunchback minifigs with the retard face. Quote
highlandcattle Posted January 28, 2007 Author Posted January 28, 2007 I hated that retarded face. in fact i dislike most face which some some sort of emotion because it always looks kinda silly. Quote

Starwars4J Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 Not bad, I found them for $0.20 each, and ordered 15 :-D If only Black Falcon torsos were that cheap :'-( Quote
