[HELP] Making a Snow Vehicle

It's snowing in the UK

So I would like to make a vehicle for use in the snow, but I have no idea what .

Anyone have any suggestions/links/instructions for something to build?

I don't have two of the same motors and not many track pieces so a tracked vehicle is not possible, however a snowmobile might, but I have no idea how to go about making one of them

unfortunately, no, the only treads I have are the ones from the 9391 tracked crane...

Yep. The sets I have are: 9391, 9392, 2506 (not complete), 5866, 4837, 4995, 7736, 8292, 4958, 4891, 8418, 8641, 8642, 8435, 4094, 8441 and some joblots (which include u-joints and beams mainly...)

if you want you can test my snowmobile...i dismounted before it was snowing but i have detailed pictures to rebuild it quickly :)

looks good, I'll have to change the track type however, how hard would that be?

easy i guess...and as it has L motor with 1:1 ratio it should also be "fast"

for the moment we also have snow in belgium .

and if in the uk the snow is tesame as over here the snowscooter will be to noseheavy.

it will sink in the snow unless you go on snow that is allready compressed by something else.

I don't have a L motor... but I think a gear ratio of 20:12 should make an XL motor have around the same performance... am I right?

no it shouldnt....last one i built a snowmobile its weight was 829g and it didnt get stuck in fresh snow....this one weights only 400g

Thanks for that Ill have to adapt it to the motors available but the basic frame and suspension etc should be able to stay the same...

Ok, I built the back end to the letter, but had to design the front end myself, and it doesnt look good or work at all... i might look at your other snowmoblie piterx and copy that as it uses the same sort of pieces as I have, it'll be slower, but a necessary sacrifice.

Or should I make a 4WD quadbike or something like that?

Perhaps you could build a half-track? I'm not sure how well it would work in the snow though.

unfortunately i dont have detailed pictures of the other one :(

at the moment i'm uploading a video on YT, some pictures and features of my quad....i put it on snow...that wasn't bad :P and it works with the pieces that you have :)

i got these pictures for the frame :)

maybe you could build that frame and adapt it for the snow with tracks and skis in the front :P

Sooooooo I tried

I did not want to disassemble my 9398 for the motors so I used an XL motor for propulsion and an M motor for the steering; I did not connect the steering wheel to the output of the medium motor (yet).

I added 5/8 pins to the threads as without them the scooter wasn't able to plow through the snow.

I used piterx' photos as a guide for building this, and it actually is my first real TECHNIC MOC, yay

The problem at the moment is that it kind of sinks in deeper snow. It's either not fast enough (will try with other gear ratio if the snow doesn't disappear too soon) or the front skis weigh too much/aren't large enough.

I tried with the original skis from piterx first but they were way too small to support the weight of the snowmobile.

It does run fine on compressed snow or carpet though, but my carpet is only 3 feet long so there's not enough to make a movie.

I'm gonna keep trying until it actually runs in normal snow and then I'll take some decent pictures

to me the wider the skiis will be the worse they're gonna be....mainly because of friction, and the second reason is that they are supposed to "cut" the snow...

anyway try to see it in scale, the range of snow that it can afford is not more than 4 cm :P

im so glad you took inspiration :D

btw...this one was really heavy, more than 800g...it's al about how much snow there is lol
