So I just downloaded LDD and went to start on something and immediately noticed something that is going to cause me problems. How can I make sure I only use the colors that the brick comes in? For example I was trying to place a road baseplate. I know it comes in green and grey, but what green and grey? It lets me choose red for it even. How can I make sure I use correct colors?

Thanks.

I suppose one way to do it would be to look up a set with that piece in it on Brickset, then check the inventory listing for that piece to see what colors it came in. I'm sure there's a faster way to do it though.

Exactly: if if the set is recent, Brickset report the brick data directly from TLG website, so the data should be accurate.

Otherwise you could consult Bricklink or Peeron, but they have different names for colours than those used in LDD, so you should convert that using a proper colour chart (for example Link).

For a complete handling about colour, read the Aanchir's LDD Reference topic.

At last, you could built a custom palette that contains only the bricks you need in the right colour and in the right amount.

I hate to say it, but at the moment LDD Manager is your best bet for this. I say "hate", because I really don't like promoting my own tool (even though it's freeware).

You need to import the LXF into LDD Manager, and then you can see if the colors you used are available. You also get tips if a certain brick is not available in a color, but a very similar one is.

Also, BrickLink is generally a better source then the brickset database for any MOC:er, since it contains all bricks (also obsolete), and those that were never in an official set. Besides, you also get a price.

Thank you for the replies. That's a bit of a bummer. At least now I'm starting to figure out Bricklink so I'll just use that to find out what colors. Then maybe after I start getting a good idea of what bricks I will actually need I'll look into the custom palette thing. Thanks!
