So sometimes (often) when I'm using the quick reply box on my laptop, the first time I hit "Backspace", my cursor will relocate to either the beginning of the line or even just a random spot in previously typed lines. Is there some cause to this that I'm unaware of, something I can do about it, etc?

To be clear, I've made sure that it' not just me brushing the thumb-pad and causing a light click that relocates the cursor. Nor is it me hitting home/end or page up/down (those keys are all located a ways away, with home/end requiring a Function key press as well). I'll just be typing as normal, make a typo, backspace to fix it... and suddenly I'm not in Kansas anymore.

Thoughts?

E: Also seems to happen that placing an emoticon will relocate the cursor to the beginning of the row, along with placing the trailing "space" there, instead of after the emoticon itself.

I have the same problem. I tend to believe it is when I tap the backspace button two times in a row.

Not sure if it is at home as well or when I use the IE8

Hey again, wanted to bring this back to attention. I was having the issue previously on my laptop, but thought it might just be happening because the thing's old and hiccups a lot anyway.

Alas, I'm still having the issue a month later on my tower as well. Still a definite return-to-beginning-of-line the first time I double-tap backspace, occasionally (haven't locked down a trigger yet) have the cursor move itself back a word or two after a single backspace, midway through writing a message. I don't see the issue when browsing on my phone.
