Lazarus Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 I like murdocs very long shed but probably a bit out of my price range to make. I always wanted to make my single into a double so i have moced it up. I have changed the roofs to keep the price down but in saying that they use a more bits. i will need to price up if the standard lego design is cheaper or this one. this one does look a bit better. My budget for this is about $2-300 cheaper the better, seams i already have half the bits might be able to do it better. its the shipping what kill the price and if i need to order from a lot of store. The sliding doors are not in lego designer so i just left them off. i have added a crossing so my small trucks can drive though with parts on. changed where the middle stuff is and i think it looks good. i have used 3 big base plates for this and i wanted to have all the track connected and my buffers connected to. i might add another plate on so i can put my switching tower on also Quote
roamingstop Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 I picked up a version to do something somilar but decided to switch to dark bley as getting all dark grey bricks was getting expensive. It will look fantastic when complete My only complaint is that it wont hold some of the older 7740 era trains because of brick built pantographs. Quote
Locomotive Annie Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 Your loco shed looks really good Lazarus and I'm going to need to build something similar myself for my own layout before too long. I like the way you've done the roof as I think the original Lego roof is far too flat, then I suppose I'm used to the look of a New Zealand Rlys steam era loco shed and they definitely weren't flat. Murdoch17 Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 I'm very honored, Lazarus, that you used my shed as the inspiration for your creation. I can't wait until your shed is done in real life! Keep up the good work, I'm sure it'll result in an amazing layout! Quote
JopieK Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 in case you need windows for those arch bricks 1 x 6, I can help you with that... I use them in my own larger engine shed: I like you version also very much! Quote
Lazarus Posted November 28, 2012 Author Posted November 28, 2012 ok just did some pricing, the new roof style will cost me more than the old lego way. its over $70us to make the new design and only about $60 for 16 2x8 slopes dont need 32 as i have 16 already. for anyone else making this yes cheaper the new way for me i might need to go back to the old lego way due to cost. LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 This huge version is great! Quote
Lazarus Posted February 4, 2013 Author Posted February 4, 2013 Hello All. After a few month build time mainly due to parts from all over the place and money thrown at it from all directions i give you my very expencive double Shed with switching tower. Quote
UrbanErwin Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 It is looking really good. My only change would be to stop the Ballast in the shed. Instead I would make a flat floor. Quote
Lazarus Posted February 4, 2013 Author Posted February 4, 2013 I like it, i know its not how sheds should be and it would be flat. I like it this way :-) Also i have so much other work to get onto i may come back and do somthing but at about $850nz into this model so far not keep to put much more into it. Quote
Luke_likes_Lego Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Fantastic. Did you use old dk grey on the big shed and new dk grey on the switching tower? Great work...and well done collecting all those bricks!! LLL Quote
Lazarus Posted February 4, 2013 Author Posted February 4, 2013 correct ya old dark on the shed and new dark on the tower. Had to do this as i already had the standerd lego shed in old dark so had to follow it though. Quote
Murdoch17 Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Great job! I'm so happy you liked the design and built it in real life. Keep up the good work! Quote
Locomotive Annie Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 Oh that is a beautiful loco shed and well worth the hassle of gathering all the parts together from far distant lands. Quote
medib Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 It turned out very nice. I really like that switching tower. Quote
