xwingyoda Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 Hey guys, for a fun project I have in mind ( *wub* ), I was wondering how to paint Lego parts ? I know you hardcore Lego Builders just hate painting, but all I have to say is why not paint ? If one of you usually do that, would you care doing a nice tutorial for us ? What kind of paint ? How to apply to make it look like a guenuine Lego colour ? (spray can, brush?) Do you finish with a transparent laquer of some kind ? Any insights would be greatly appreciated ;-) *yoda* Quote
Vader Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 You painting lego X-O X-D :-P ;-) Ok well i use paint from a place over here called the Games Workshop, they can be found online, there paints are very good and come in a great selection though they are abit pricey. Ive used them on quite a few items from custom figs to painting standered bricks, this works well but if you want to make the paint stick out more and seem more lego(ish) then i would suggest using a gloss afterwards. I use a small paint brush and small amounts of paint at a time, but make sure you select a good brush because there nothing worse than a brush that loses its hairs halfway through painting. I know others use spray and there seems to be some good results but i cant tell you the plus side/down side as i havent. The paints also depend on what your painting i.e if your painting a fig would you be painting the joints? if so your gonna need a good paint to prevent chipping when moving. You can view some of the items ive painted in my BS folder, that might give you an idea on how the paints come out. Also head over to redbeans Custom Minifig Network as redbeans got a superb review on how to paint, sculpt, mold etc. Hope this helps. Quote
xwingyoda Posted January 12, 2007 Author Posted January 12, 2007 Tks mate ;-) I only need to paint regular parts (and I hope only tiles or smooth parts to make it easier) !! And its only for a fun project hehe You'll see once I have time time to do it, write the story, shoot and post ;-) For now, I need to see what bricks/parts I need + come up with a design and color for the custom paint ;-) However, I'm sure you'll love it :-P I am so looking forward to it !! You know me, I never can make a MOC easy, I always need a short storyline for the fun hehe (like my fabulous bat story which was a disaster in terms of posts :-( sob sob !!) Also, while I will do my "project", I shall make a painting tutorial ;-) *yoda* Quote
