lightningtiger Posted November 5, 2012 Posted November 5, 2012 (edited) Doing my usual search for Lego stories and this one popped up from the 24th of October........Lego's CEO was in Oz ! He touches on many points, especially Lego's turnaround in their fortunes and about Lego Friend's. http://www.smh.com.au/business/legos-record-australian-push-stacks-up-20121024-284d5.html Edited November 28, 2012 by Fugazi edited title Quote
LegoPohm Posted November 5, 2012 Posted November 5, 2012 Good article and good news for Aussies and Oz based fans. Hope there is a knock on effect in NZ in terms of export numbers of bricks. Quote
Brickus Posted November 6, 2012 Posted November 6, 2012 Did anyone see the tv spot of him on the Ten morning show Breakfast. Quote
Basta Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 Interesting artical, just thinking of all the money I spend on over seas web sites, none of this I assume counts towards the total Australian sales talked about in the Artical. Its mostly the larger and more expensive sets I get from OS as well. Quote
LEGO Historian Posted November 14, 2012 Posted November 14, 2012 It's nice that Australia got recognition for 50 years of LEGO (1962)... the USA got no such recognition last year, for their 1961 (Samsonite) LEGO introduction. TLG sued Samsonite from 1970-72 to get the license back... so they use 1973 as the begin date for LEGO in the USA... rather petty if you ask me... Quote
LEGO Historian Posted November 14, 2012 Posted November 14, 2012 From my 2,800 page DVD Download chapter (still available).... here is a copy from the Old LEGO Catalog Chapter... of the very first Australian LEGO catalog of 1962.... This is from before Australia went to the dollar/decimal system in the early 1970s... Quote
AndyC Posted November 14, 2012 Posted November 14, 2012 (edited) Love it. Especially the note about Special Sets - "but because these sets will build only one model it is better to start your collection with one of the Basic Sets and get a Special Set later" - how times have changed! LEGO Historian Posted November 14, 2012 Posted November 14, 2012 (edited) Here are the model designs for many of the Special Sets... And here is what the Australian version of the 236 Garage set design looks like. The larger box sets have similar box designs with the stud background as found in this version of the 236 set...
