Tips on work area when building a Technic set

I have a big box with everything in it, and a lid from another box that i use to put pieces that i dont have many of. Then, when i build, i dump the lid on my bed, and have easy access to everythin.

I build from the bags, on my incredibly crowded and messy desk. I have so little room that often I have to set assemblies on the floor while I work on the next bit in the space between my keyboard and the edge of the desk.
