LegoBobby Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 Hello again, Been having another play with LDD and decided to design myself a mechanical grab that would ideally found a scrap or salvage yard. This one would be used to pick apart CITY vehicles and sort the pieces into piles. Here are some pics for you. As usual let me know what you think all comments welcome. The stability legs are down ready for work. It has an exceptionally long reach to make it to the top of piles of bricks. With such a long reach the cab raises in height and extends forward so that the driver gets a better view of their grab. Like all machines of this size it has an enormous engine found under this panel. Hope you all like. Quote
Wedge09 Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 Nice work  A good add-on for a city Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 (edited) I like it,however I do have some suggestionsto make it even better: 1)Scrap handlers dont have telescopic booms. 2)The cab should be able to be raised up and down (see photo). 3The arm is on the wrong side. 4)I do not like the engine cover. Alot of that depends on what model it is based off of. Sal WFB, WI Quote
LegoBobby Posted October 17, 2012 Author Posted October 17, 2012 Thanks for the feedback folks, Alasdair, did you look at the pictures without reading the description? ;) See below which refers to your 2nd point. I'm interested to know why the boom is always on the right? I never knew that. With such a long reach the cab raises in height and extends forward so that the driver gets a better view of their grab. Many years ago jcb and himac made excavators with the cab on the right. But ever since the Japanese machines and the ones from America came onto the market with there left hand side cab they just stuck to them on the left .There is no reason why they can be on the right. legoboy3998 Posted October 20, 2012 Posted October 20, 2012 It is the only picture I found with the cab on the right, but looks alot like your model. Sal WFB, WI Quote
dr_spock Posted October 20, 2012 Posted October 20, 2012 Not bad. You may want to include some "hydraulic" cyclinders to hold up the arms in your design. I am not sure there is enough friction in your technic liftarm and axle joints to support the weight. LDD doesn't take in account of gravity. Quote
LegoBobby Posted October 21, 2012 Author Posted October 21, 2012 Big thanks for all the great feedback everyone. I do need to try and add Hydraulics I agree. Quote
