I was looking at the 'components made in' list for a standard blue baseplate (Set 620, or part 3811), and on the packaging, it lists Denmark, Hungary, Austria, Mexico and the Czech Republic.

My question is, how can 1 piece be made in 5 countries? I was thinking that the ABS could be sourced from one place, the dye from another, the mold pressed in another, the cardboard in another, and the plastic shrink wrap in another?

I know that TLG have pretty a streamlined production process in place, but how does 1 part need 5 countries for it to come into being? Any ideas or theories?

Baseplates are probably manufactured in all five countries, but AFAIK, all sets are still packaged in Denmark. So they probably wanted to avoid changing the printing for every new batch depending on the country from which it came. Plus, this way, they don't have to store the BPs from different countries separately in the warehouse.

They're made in little sections in all the countries listed, except Demark, then all the sections are sent to Denmark, where they are welded together by tiny Danish elves. :D

Those elves - They can make a weld invisible! What's why you cannot see any seams. But their technology does not work very well for things other than baseplates. That's why other things that are welded together, show seams.

Want more of my silly theories?

The "scream tubes" on the California Screamin' roller coaster, soak up the riders' screams, which are then used to power the ride, a-la Monsters Inc.

At Google Maps, walking directions to Mordor are not available, because one does not simply walk into Mordor.

OK, that's all 4 now.
