Carsten Svendsen Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 I want to build a RC vehicle (done) but all I need is the wheel part now. I have tried many things but to no avail. The structure is this one: It needs 2 wheels on top, on the side and on the bottom of the rail (pin joiners). I have had a look at these wheels but I can't find any technic thing to connect it to. The wheel must no exceed 2,5 studs and may not be more than 1 stud wide. If you find a suitable wheel then please try it out and see if it fits all around the rail. I would prefer as little play as possible. Quote
le60head Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 Hey there! this is the smallest rim & tire combo i can think of: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=42610&ccName=4211758 http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=50945 Good luck with your project! Quote
dhc6twinotter Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 You can also put this tire around a half bushing. Quote
BobBongo1895 Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 Hey Carsten, maybe my thread could help you. http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=72785&st=0&p=1357677&fromsearch=1entry1357677 regards Klaus Quote

Thank you, I didn't own any of the sets the tire was in so I didn't know it existed. From my calculations 14mm is just about 2 studs so I will have to make some difficult connections :/ Could you (or anybody else) try to build just one pair of wheels (where 5 or 6 wheels are needed) around the frame? You can also put this tire around a half bushing. I tried that but there was too much play and looseness on the wheels Hey Carsten, maybe my thread could help you. http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=72785&st=0&p=1357677&fromsearch=1entry1357677 regards Klaus I took a look and those pin solutions look like a lot of drag on the car. Carsten Svendsen Posted September 21, 2012 Author Posted September 21, 2012 (edited) I think i found a possible solution but it's too big imo. I guess it can't get any smaller though, I tried many things. Ideas are appreaciated Edited September 21, 2012 by Carsten Svendsen Quote
SNIPE Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 (edited) All you need is a rim that has a dip in the middle that will act like having three small wheels supporting the rail, one such as two train wheels put front to front will have a guide in the middle for the rail. Carsten Svendsen Posted September 21, 2012 Author Posted September 21, 2012 (edited) Ok, could you show me a Bricklink link to a wheel-like part that fits perfectly around such a rail? And if you happen to find one, then I don't think it would work that great anyhow because that it's hard plastic against hard plastic. There's either too little or too much friction to make it spin properly. I assume that wheels are better suited for this. Edited September 21, 2012 by Carsten Svendsen Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 (edited) I have never made a roller coaster...... I don't know if this might help you in any way... You can add a bottom wheel to one side also if need be. Edited September 21, 2012 by Alasdair Ryan Quote
SNIPE Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 (edited) But modern roller coasters use plastic wheels on metal I can't find the train wheels now that LDD has changed, but try it , maybe you need to separate them a bit by using a 1/2 bush if that has a better curve. if these dont work look for a car rim or inverted dome brick of some kind Edited September 21, 2012 by SNIPE Quote

It looks too bulky to fit and I don't like sliding wheels, it has got to be rolling wheels :/ But modern roller coasters use plastic wheels on metal I can't find the train wheels now that LDD has changed, but try it , maybe you need to separate them a bit by using a 1/2 bush if that has a better curve. if these dont work look for a car rim or inverted dome brick of some kind No car rims has got the right size. The train wheels above seems to fit around the rail in SR 3D Builder and a 3mm Rigid Hose will keep it in place while used with 1/4 pins. I have ordered some of them as well. Carsten Svendsen Posted September 22, 2012 Author Posted September 22, 2012 The wheels do roll..... I imagine that the long threaded thing is the rail and the big wheel is the one rolling. But, in order to work, I would need to turn it 90° to get it lying down and the 4 smaller wheels still wouldn't roll on the rail. If only it was that simple.. I've ordered some parts on BL, so in a couple of days I'll see which solution I'll choose Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 I see what you mean. The big wheel in the middle is the drive wheel. The side wheels are only there as guide wheels.... Quote
Carsten Svendsen Posted September 22, 2012 Author Posted September 22, 2012 Since this is the technic room I don't suppose many regular brick-builders are looking here so I posted my request in the discussion forum instead. http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=74445 Quote
