For deeplinks i just keep on clicking on the picture (from BS i assume) until there is a ###.jpg or ###.gif at the end of the web address.

The Hudson's Bay Company - 1843

Hence the City of Victoria was founded by the Hudson's Bay Company on March 14, 1843, as a trading post and fort at the location the native Indians called "Camosack" meaning "Rush of Water." Anticipating that under the Oregon Treaty, then being drawn up, the 49th parallel would be chosen as the International Boundary Line, the Hudson's Bay Company moved its fort from Vancouver on the Columbia River to the southern end of Vancouver Island. Thereafter, for a short time, it was known locally as "Fort Albert," but by resolution passed by the Council of the Northern Department of the Company meeting at Fort Garry on June 10, 1843, it was officially named "Fort Victoria" after the great British Queen.

Yep. That is a picture of one of the two bastions at opposite corners of the fort. We stil have Fort Street as a main street in town. A few years ago a heritage project outlined the walls of the fort in bricks set into the sidewalk (where possible).

The city of Nanaimo (90 minutes drive up the coast of Vancouver Island) still has a bastion (never part of an actual fort) built around the same time. Two pictures (the colour picture is how it looks today.)

To be fair there are lots of other "Fort Victoria's" around the world, but as far as I know we are the only city to evolve out of one and simply drop the "Fort" from our name. *sweet*

Is it possible that could you take some decent pictures of this fort one day? It kinda looks too small to be a fort in those pictures, although that may be influenced by my ideal of how big a fort should be...

You have to remember that the Nanaimo Bastion was a simple stand alone tower. A place to store weapons and ammo mostly. At Fort Victoria there was one of these at each of two opposite corners between which was a wooden pallisade.

It may be a while but if I get a chance I will take some pics.

Maybe I have unreasonable expectations but when a town is named after a fort I'd expect the fort to be a lot bigger! This is probably the reason I'm not allowed to name towns...

Anyway... This particular kind of fort might translate well into an official LEGO set design. Maybe something I could look into one day if I ever get the time.

We've been bringing the old threads back to life all week!

I like the large door design and all the soldiers behind it. I also think you did a good job with the docks. It also appears a couple of your imperial guard figs are customs, I noticed, of course, the two with Jack Sparrow on the docks.

I wonder 2 things though,

1), would the canons up top fall right over the edge if you ever fired them? I guess it isn't a big deal to me as I have always gone for 'cool factor' over reality, but if you care for such things, you might end up landing one of those 18 pounders on top of a soldier on the recoil.

2) What is supposed to be behind the wall? Is this the first of many walls that would enclose an area to be the inside of fort Victoria?

Well, In the new version, there is an 8-stud long veranda where the cannons now, and the two offical cannons have been replaced with 6 smalller customs (I'd say 9lb.s, but when I post pics I'll get all of your more experienced eyes to determine it.)
