madoka Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 Several years ago, I made a trip through all the K-Marts in my area. They were really bad about their inventory and back then you could still find a lot of older sets hidden on the shelves. One of the stores I hit had abou 8-10 SES discounted to $50 each. Thinking that I couldn't hold that many big sets in my car and having spent several thousand already that day, I didn't buy a single one. I went back a few weeks later, only to find them all gone. :'-( Still makes me sad to think about it. Though back then I was more concerned bulking up on Imperial Guards (I still have about 100 unopened Bounty Boats sitting in my garage.) Any sets you guys regret not picking up? Quote
Lord Admiral Helden Ravensdorn Posted December 28, 2006 Posted December 28, 2006 I regret not infiltrating your garage and stealing about 80 of those boats :P Anyway, the only deal I regret not getting was this one combo deal for a Muaka and Kane Ra and a pair of Nui-Jaga on eBay for $50. I cant find either set now for less then $100, much less both of them :-/ Quote
oo7 Posted December 28, 2006 Posted December 28, 2006 Anyway, the only deal I regret not getting was this one combo deal for a Muaka and Kane Ra and a pair of Nui-Jaga on eBay for $50. Huba Wabu Heka Gaja? That's got to some type of ancient Indigo Islander ritual shine of 'Dark Magic', right? :-D Well my story isn't about Pirate Lego and many others' might not be either so I am not so sure about this thread's existence in the pirate forum. Anyways, years ago there used to be a surprisingly nice bargain store here in the US called Odd Job and it is now unfortunately out of business. In the US Lego is only found in high-end toy stores; no 'toy isle' in any CVS or supermarket or any bookstores. But one day an Odd Job I visited miraculously had maybe two different kinds Belleville sets, a couple Explosion Studios and A LOT of these little Shell promotional things. I bought an 'Explosion Studio' which has an MSRP of $35 for about $7, and my brother bought two small but nice Shell promotional sets for about $1. One of them was definitely this one; http://peeron.com/inv/sets/2538-1?showpic=2099 The other might have been this one; http://peeron.com/inv/sets/2536-1?showpic=2291 I'm still happy with what we got but If I was little smarter I would have bought a bunch more of those $1 ones like these; http://peeron.com/inv/sets/2541-1?showpic=2316 http://peeron.com/inv/sets/2542-1?showpic=2317 http://peeron.com/inv/sets/2539-1?showpic=2098 http://peeron.com/inv/sets/2537-1 Although I might have just had to have asked my dad for a lone, as I think I was only five or six years old at the time and I just might have spent a lot of my money paying for that Lego Studios set. :-$ Oh, and there once was a nice Spiderman set "The Origins" (Ooo, those happy/scared faces (I still need some of those!!)) in good condition in a Buy-it-now auction from a good seller for $10. An hour later it was gone. Should have bought it. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted December 28, 2006 Governor Posted December 28, 2006 Several years ago, I made a trip through all the K-Marts in my area. Exactly how many years ago is that? 7? They were really bad about their inventory and back then you could still find a lot of older sets hidden on the shelves. One of the stores I hit had abou 8-10 SES discounted to $50 each. I've always dreamed of finding a store like this but this is a dream that never comes true... Quote
madoka Posted December 28, 2006 Author Posted December 28, 2006 I regret not infiltrating your garage and stealing about 80 of those boats :P It would be easier to steal these: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=74451 Exactly how many years ago is that? 7?I've always dreamed of finding a store like this but this is a dream that never comes true... Yeah. It was in the late 1990s. You could still find sets 4-8 years old on the shelves. Now I'm lucky to see 2 year old sets. Quote
Lord Admiral Helden Ravensdorn Posted December 28, 2006 Posted December 28, 2006 Ten billion blue blistering barnacles in a thundering typhoon! Whatever do you need that many redcoats for? 0_O And to think I'm only looking for about a dozen or so.. :-/ Quote
Aaron Morse Posted December 28, 2006 Posted December 28, 2006 My biggest 'one that got away' was back in 1996 and toy store named Toys and Wheels had a going out of business sale. I had money, and they had lots on sale, and I bought stuff but I shoulda bought alot more. The one thing that alway stuck in my mind was the stack of Mach 2 Red Bird Rigs at 40 bucks a pop (thats kit number 5591 and 40 canadian dollars) I bought two and shoulda bought the rest...there was at least 6-8 more sitting there....WAH!!! Norro Posted December 28, 2006 Posted December 28, 2006 (I still have about 100 unopened Bounty Boats sitting in my garage.) Reminds me of the 'how many MISB sets are there?' debate... :-D God Bless, Nathan Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted December 29, 2006 Governor Posted December 29, 2006 I'd really like to see a picture of 100 unopened MISB Bounty Boats... And if this figure is true is there any chance of selling a couple? Quote

Governor Mister Phes Posted December 29, 2006 Governor Posted December 29, 2006 That's only half dozen! How deep is that box? Quote
Scouty Posted December 29, 2006 Posted December 29, 2006 Half of the box is open and the other isn't. In the picture before it, it looks like a pretty big box. So, wow. That's alot of Bounty boats. Exactly 144 of them. And for a hefty price! Quote
Lord Admiral Helden Ravensdorn Posted December 29, 2006 Posted December 29, 2006 ... Soooo Can I buy some of your Bounty Boats? :-D Quote
Norrington Posted December 30, 2006 Posted December 30, 2006 i would be interested in buying a couple.... Quote
Grrr Posted December 30, 2006 Posted December 30, 2006 Just sorting through my lego made me remember one of my regrets in this regard. Some time ago my local kmart had accidentally misentered the price of 6027 on their computers. They were selling for $1.09 rather then $10.99. At the time I thought 5 would be enough. They had around 30 of them. I now wish that I had bought all of them :(. Quote
jamtf Posted December 31, 2006 Posted December 31, 2006 Since some Eurobricks members would like to buy bounty boats off the topic poster, I think it is fair to tell they should know there is a madoka on BrickLink who got his store ABCB Cafe suspended because of 3 completed NSS (non shipping seller) alerts. I am not saying that it is the same guy but the BL member name is the same for sure. 8-| :S :-/ Quote

I had some people place orders but I never took their money - I just didn't respond. I see the guy with the NSS. That is incorrect and I'll send in a request to BL. He never paid for anything and I have all the emails to prove it. I've been pretty busy with work, so I really don't have time/inclination to sell Lego. Though somehow I did manage to buy $8000 of it the last couple of weeks. Quote

By refusing to complete orders you have built a negative reputation that is - reading your explanation - not the way things should have turned out. Buying for $8000 worth of Lego. That is impressive, even for my standards. What did you get for that money? Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted January 2, 2007 Governor Posted January 2, 2007 $8000 is quite impressive for "a couple of weeks"! But that depends what kind of dollars. If it was Hong Kong dollars then that isn't quite so impressive! Quote
Scouty Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 Well it does say the USD currency sign. That is an impresive amount of...uhm...lego. Quote
madoka Posted January 2, 2007 Author Posted January 2, 2007 Yeah, I know I could have responded, but I frankly got sick of all the whiney kids that think that you have no life and must mail out their Lego ASAP. I had my grandmother die and I was working on a $10 million case where a woman's future literrally rested on the outcome, and yet buyers would groan how I could not mail out their $5 order till next weekend. I figured my time is more valuable and I no longer cared to sell Lego anymore. Yes, all US $. I got a couple thousand minifigs, 1,000 euro armors, my horse barding count is now up to about 700, a bunch of sets, etc. About $5,500 on BL and the rest at TRU and Lego stores. If the SW battle packs were more available. . . who knows what insanity I would have indulged in. As it were I only managed to find about 50 of them. But really, I'm trying to catch up from my mini-dark age which lasted the past couple of years. I greased the wheels with the spouse by first getting her a Mikimoto pearl necklace and earring set for our anniversary. I figured she'd give me a pass for a while on the Lego, but if she ever figured out how much I was spending, I'm sure there'd be a reckoning. Quote

Norrington Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 Well, first the spirit need's a host to posses in order for that to happen ADmiral. Quote
