technicfan Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 I know everyone's probably over it already, but I recently received the 9397 log truck. As I built it I changed it to my liking and now I am really happy with it. It has the front bumper from the 8285 tow truck, polished rims, new guards and filled in the bonnet, polished front grill, foot steps, modified crane, extra axle, dual wheels and rear guards. Also made a 3 axle trailer with dual wheels. Let me know what you think. Quote
jorgeopesi Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 What a number of wheels, great work with the 9397. Quote
Foggy Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 (edited) Well as far as I'm concerned if I modify a set I try to make it closer to reality, don't think exists a truck with 3 axels on the back of the truck(especially with double wheels) and even a 3 axels trailer, almost impossible they turn. Anyway if you like it it ok A double wheels and a double axel (with double wheels) trailer should be perfect for long trees, I think in the USA use this configuration. Personally when I'll buy the 9397 I'll do the double wheels mod and add the pneumatic to the claw as in 8868. Cheers Edited September 2, 2012 by Foggy Quote
cgarison Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 Nice work! I like the fenders on the tractor and the dolly wheels. When I make a MOC version of the 9397, I am planning to add an inline 6 motor if I can stuff it under the hood/bonnet. Quote

Cheers log truck Foggy, I wasn't trying to make it like a real one, but loosely base it on the tri drive one in the 1st picture in the link. The more wheels and axles the better for me. The crane was how I wanted it. Edited September 3, 2012 by technicfan Quote
Foggy Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 (edited) Oh sorry, didn't know the existance of a 3 double axel truck anda trailer too. Thought maximum was 2. Anyway you did a nice job. Is the trailer lenght in scale with the truck? Are the 3 truck axels with a differential each? Thanks Edited September 3, 2012 by Foggy Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 I would agree with Foggy the trailer is just a bit too long.I think it should finish were the red line is. It would of been nice it you would of made the middel part extend like the real life trailer's. Quote
Erik Leppen Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 I like what you did with the truck, but I find the trailer a bit simple. It simply doesn't do very much, it's just a block with wheels. As for the truck, I like the double rear tires and extra axle. You changed the front wheel arches as well, right? I like it. I'm not fond of the red frame though, would have chosen dark gray or light gray for that. But it's a matter of taste. Quote
dhc6twinotter Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 Looks like a great mod! Your trailer looks well built, and you've done a nice job on those rear fenders. Tri axle log trailers are fairly common here in the US (at least where I'm at). Tri-drive tractors also exist, although most log trucks have two drive axles, or two drive axles and a third drop axle. So, your model is very close to the real thing. Nice job! Quote
technicfan Posted September 4, 2012 Author Posted September 4, 2012 Thanks for the comments guys, this is the 1st technic set that I have changed from the original one and am pleased with how it came out. Foggy, I didn't have any more diffs so the other 2 axles are just axles joined together but they work fine enough for me. Alasdiar Ryan, I noticed it was too long after I took the photos, and had since changed it to the length where the red line is. The drawbar is also too fraile, and bends, I might have look at maybe making a 2 layer one for added strength?. Also the drawbar can slide inside the trailer to adjust the length a little bit. I might look at putting guards on it soon, but ran out of parts. Erik Leppen, I don't think there is much to those trailers anyway. It looks like a block because I had to make it strong, and that is the only way I could think to do it. The red chassis is how it came out of the box. I wouldn't have enough parts to change the colour of it anyway. Quote
Balrog Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 The modifications are cool. And I really like the trailer. I'd love to see some pics with real logs of wood :D Quote
technicfan Posted September 5, 2012 Author Posted September 5, 2012 (edited) Thanks everyone, Balrog I will see what I can do about the logs, and take some better photos. Edited September 5, 2012 by technicfan Quote
Balrog Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 Thanks everyone, Balrog I will see what I can do about the logs, and take some better photos. I bet that will look really cool. It would just add the kind of detail that makes it look even more "realistic". You could pose it in front of a real Sawmill and phtograph it from a very low angle, so it looks like a real log delivery :D But that is just me having ideas ;) Quote
Out of Sight Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 Very nice mod... Can the trailer be folded and carried by the tractor like the ones in the pic you posted? Quote
technicfan Posted September 6, 2012 Author Posted September 6, 2012 Very nice mod... Can the trailer be folded and carried by the tractor like the ones in the pic you posted? Unfortunately it cant because the log forks are too wide for the wheels to slip down. Quote
