Governor Mister Phes Posted December 20, 2006 Governor Posted December 20, 2006 Phes: will this message be moved to the Image Review section or stay here? The message or the entire thread? The thread will get moved after its no longer receiving any attention, because it will be easier to find in the Review section than on page 5 of the main forum. But it shall stay here until it disappears off page 1. Quote
Scouty Posted December 20, 2006 Posted December 20, 2006 My Caribean Clipper and it's crew are going to be taking a bath probably soon, in, really really cold water, hehee. I got my Clipper for $56. Pretty much retail price X-D . Quote
Capn Kirk 911 Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 looks, b-e-a-u-tiful!!! :-D :-D :-D I love the sails!!! :-D :-D :-D Quote
Scouty Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 Should I start a thread on my conclusions? Does anybody know a good sail cleaner? Mine are incredibly dirty. Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted December 21, 2006 Author Posted December 21, 2006 looks, b-e-a-u-tiful!!! :-D :-D :-DI love the sails!!! :-D :-D :-D The real ones are much more vivid than my pictures. The contrast of royal blue and white is quite stunning. Great color combination. The yellow bricks also contrast nicely with the black and brown pieces. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted January 10, 2007 Governor Posted January 10, 2007 This Pictorial Review is good enough to make the frontpage! So I've created a 3D background and inserted the Caribbean Clipper into it for the advertisement. Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted January 10, 2007 Eurobricks Emperor Posted January 10, 2007 Wooow, how did you do that reflection on the water?? That looks really very professional! Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted January 10, 2007 Governor Posted January 10, 2007 I used a program called Vue, however there's plenty I'm not happy about, particularly the fact that there's no wake. But its my first attempt at doing this in Vue so I thought I'd excuse myself... Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted January 10, 2007 Eurobricks Emperor Posted January 10, 2007 I used a program called Vue, however there's plenty I'm not happy about, particularly the fact that there's no wake. Maybe there was no wind when this picture was taken... Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted January 10, 2007 Governor Posted January 10, 2007 I thought the wake was created by the water parting around hull and echoing off to the sides.... Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted January 10, 2007 Eurobricks Emperor Posted January 10, 2007 I thought the wake was created by the water parting around hull and echoing off to the sides.... Indeed, but when there is not wind, this ship will not move and also the water won't be moving. So there will be no wake when the ship is just lying dead in the water. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted January 10, 2007 Governor Posted January 10, 2007 I thought it appeared as though it was moving against the current which would disturb the water. But more to the point its not supposed to be dead in the water! Quote
Lord David Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 Alas, I never got a proper pirate ship, the closest I got was the Time Twisters watchamacalls-it? |-/ Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted January 10, 2007 Governor Posted January 10, 2007 Well its never too late Lord David, you could always pick one up on eBay or BrickLink.... Quote
Scouty Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 Phes, one thing, if it is an option in your program, is use a brush that distorts the image, then taking it to your photo. I'm going to try with your very-well-done-already picture. To show you an example. Quote
Capn Kirk 911 Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 great review brickster, as you can probally tell from my avatar I love the carribean clipper. Quote
Scouty Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 You seem to like to make comments again alot! :-D . I dipped my Clipper, but I'm going through the pieces and determin which ones need more "Soakage". Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted January 11, 2007 Author Posted January 11, 2007 Awesome imagery Phes. Nice work. I love the reflection. The ship looks like it's actually in water. Quote
Mile85 Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 very good images indeed Mister phes. The ship is ok, but it's missing something.. there's plenty on room in the rear to make a proper interior but Lego didn't do that..It's a bit lame for a flagship.... about 10 years ago I customized my own clipper: I moved the front mast a litlle towards the rear and I did build interior in the back, using same style as lego used in BSB.. offcourse I don't have pictures of that ship but it looked much more balanced. I also put one pair brown wooden doors to my ship and it was perfect *sweet* I don't understand why the imperal guards don't have backpacks in the original set..there should have been also couple of barrels and parrot and/or monkey. but overall a good set. I can only give 3/5 though because my MOC was much more better. Mister Phes: you have black pieces in your cannons?.. are they from original set or did you chance them? All my cannons are all the way gray.. Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted January 15, 2007 Author Posted January 15, 2007 The person who rated this ship "Extremely Poor" should explain why. I'm somewhat surprised that anyone would do so. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted January 15, 2007 Governor Posted January 15, 2007 Awesome imagery Phes. Nice work. I love the reflection. The ship looks like it's actually in water. Actually, if you look carefully you'll notice the hull is submerged above the cannon ports. I had great difficult making it appear as though it was sitting flat on the water because either end would look raise. So I'd adjust it and then the opposite end would appear to be raised. I didn't really use the best image for inserted into a three-dimensionally generated terrain. If you look closely you may notice that Caribbean Clipper is the same as the one in the banner. Since I'd already edited out the background for use with the banner I just took the edited image straight into the 3D modelling software. The ship is ok, but it's missing something.. there's plenty on room in the rear to make a proper interior but Lego didn't do that..It's a bit lame for a flagship.... about 10 years ago I customized my own clipper You don't happen to have pictures of your custom Clipper by any chance? Mister Phes: you have black pieces in your cannons?.. are they from original set or did you chance them? All my cannons are all the way gray.. This is because they're firing cannons and their interior design has been modified to enable them to shoot cylinders. Nice ship! 8-o Could you elaborate upon that? The person who rated this ship "Extremely Poor" should explain why. I'm somewhat surprised that anyone would do so. Yes, I'd like to know too. There isn't anything wrong with rating a set Extremely Poor if you have are reason. Personally I don't like the design Caribbean Clipper that much. Quote
Mile85 Posted January 16, 2007 Posted January 16, 2007 No, unfortunately I don't have pictures of it..It was a long time ago and I didn't take too many pictures of my legos.. and they are all in old-fashioned photo album *sweet* Yeah..I know they are shooting cannons, but I just happen to have shooting cannons wich are gray.. I mean every part is gray. BTW, I used to reassembe my cannons and change the springs to more stiffer ones. Iprefer quality than the quantity of cannons.. I got about 3-time better shooting range for my cannons :-D maybe more... Quote
Assamite Posted January 16, 2007 Posted January 16, 2007 I used a program called Vue, however there's plenty I'm not happy about, particularly the fact that there's no wake. But its my first attempt at doing this in Vue so I thought I'd excuse myself... Looks fantastic man. Got this one for Christmas along with the Dark Shark (BSB). Was nice to have a ship to tie up at Fort Sabre (FE). I rated this set 3, but felt it should be 3 and a 1/2. Excellent colour scheme and a solid ship, but as has been mentioned seems a little unfinished. I'm planning on adding a stateroom, 2 extra canons, some sailors (I consider the figs marines) and a lateen sail off the hind mast, using another blue spritsail. Maybe some bow chasers. (Hope I got the terminology right) Also the lack of figures hurts this set a bit. Still considering it was a first attempt by lego in the Pirate theme, I think it turned out well. CM Quote
