Island boy Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 ;-) :'-) :-D Some people think that Islanders made the Pirates sets bad.I for one think islanders where an upgrade to the pirate sets. kahuka is a very good friend of mine and I think he is right when he thinks that islanders are awesome. I mean how could you not like a set that caters to so much of what history beheld. People should really look into the Islander sets. Vote and tell us what you think! Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted December 15, 2006 Governor Posted December 15, 2006 Would you like a poll to at the top of this thread? Quote
Island boy Posted December 15, 2006 Author Posted December 15, 2006 Would you like a poll to at the top of this thread? YES please SIR MISTER PHES. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted December 15, 2006 Governor Posted December 15, 2006 A poll has been added... Quote
Cabby Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 Actually my first pirate set (got it this week) is an Islanders set (Forbidden Cove). ;-) Gotta love the painted faces :-D Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted December 16, 2006 Eurobricks Emperor Posted December 16, 2006 I recently changed my mind on the Islanders by seeing some great MOCs on the forum (previously I didn't like them very much). But I still don't own any of the islander sets, so I'm not the big expert. Quote
Capn Frank Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 i own all the original sets with islanders in them. i like them a lot. i like having all them canoes. they seem to add more flavor to system pirates. haven't made any mocs with them yet. didn't think about it until i saw some of the mocs on here. Governor Mister Phes Posted December 16, 2006 Governor Posted December 16, 2006 What do you mean by your last post Island Boy? It doesn't quite make sense, I think you're missing a word. Quote
Norrington Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 yeah it dosn't make sense to me either... Quote
Captain Roger Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 is the worst LEGO pirate sub-theme...i hate islanders...the only gpood point is Ironhook minifig(that guy was too used in islanders sub-theme) but i think indians aren't interested in gold...they couldn' have a treasure and then`pirates couldn't be interested in stealing them.. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted December 16, 2006 Governor Posted December 16, 2006 Indians were indeed interested in gold, but not for monetary purposes as they offered it to their gods and decorated their leaders with it. Ever seen this artifact before? Quote
Norrington Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 well frankly don't care much. i voted "alllright" it's just that even if i did have a single islander set they wouldn'y play much of a role in my adventures, maybe occasionally, as imperial informants, but nt allot.... Quote
Island boy Posted December 17, 2006 Author Posted December 17, 2006 What do you mean by your last post Island Boy? It doesn't quite make sense, I think you're missing a word. I did and I forgot to rewrite it . thank you for catching it. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted December 20, 2006 Governor Posted December 20, 2006 The Islanders seem to be getting a lot of love considering they were the least popular Pirate sub-theme, but I'm wondering who is voting for them. So come forth Islander lovers and show yourselves! Quote
El Bucanero Posted December 20, 2006 Posted December 20, 2006 I remember voting "they're allright". Why: because I think they are allright, but not great... They are a nice addition to an island. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted December 20, 2006 Governor Posted December 20, 2006 But that still doesn't explain who voted "I Love them" Quote
Scouty Posted December 20, 2006 Posted December 20, 2006 Isn't it obvious :-D :-P ! BTW, where is Kahuka? He fell off the face of the earth. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted December 20, 2006 Governor Posted December 20, 2006 Obviously KAHUKA and Island Boy consumed 2 of the "Love them" votes, but who were the others? I thought there would be more disgraces. Quote
Capn Kirk 911 Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 Actually my first pirate set (got it this week) is an Islanders set (Forbidden Cove). ;-) Gotta love the painted faces :-D I agree, there is nothing like islanders painted faces :-D !!! Quote
Scouty Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 You know, I thought those painted faces came from a different theme...I guess I was wrong. The faces are nice...the islanders are ok...not going to vote on this though. Quote

Ever seen this artifact before? mmmh you are rghyt phes...but Indigo islanders hadn't a treasure with lot of gold coins...look at enchanted island Quote
Berry Syedow Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 But that still doesn't explain who voted "I Love them" Brick Miner? The Islanders are a notch above alright in my book. Some more realistic sets would have been nice. (A few mini-figs dancing around the fire, or a few islanders hunting some wild boar...) They were a nice addition to the pirate theme, but I feel they weren't as flushed out as they could have been. A lot of people voice their distaste for the theme, simply because they don't like the islanders, but do like Imperial soldiers. To sell more sets, TLC could have produced a little story involving Imperialism. It wouldn't be anything too brutal; a few sets would focus on the Spanish or the British encroaching upon the Islanders' land. This story line would have had much more potential. Pirate fans would get a larger selection of the Spanish/British; because of this there would be a strong incentive to buy Islander sets. Quote
Brick Miner Posted December 26, 2006 Posted December 26, 2006 Brick Miner? X-D well, it wasn't me, as i just added my vote today X-O the islanders were so great for so many reasons, i just wish they got the attention they deserved. honestly, im a little surprised we don't see more islander interest... building moai from LEGOs is quite a rewarding and fun task... plus the color scheme LEGO gave the islanders is great to work with. the red really pops against the black and yellow in the minifigs. the minifigs were great (not the best, but certainly not the worst), there only needs to be more variety (but this can be said for most themes anyway). my personal belief is that the islanders are pretty unrealistic (especially when placed in the realm of a pirate world), and this keeps them from being explored in MOCs by AFOL. i favor artistic merits over realism though... and prefer a little fantasy in my LEGO themes. therefore, i am unaffected by the unrealistic presentation of the south pacific islander. i am happy to see the majority of voters "love" the sub-theme... but like phes, i have to ask, "who is it ???" i certainly don't see this appriciation reflected here at EB :'-( (if it weren't for my current facination with the gun-totting bandits of the western frontier, i would certainly be involved in a islander revival ;-) ) - BrickMiner Quote
