LOTR montage

I was asked to fit some LOTR sets into a display case for BricksnFun at Capalaba.

I tried my hand with 6 of the current sets; the forge was unavailable.

Like most LEGO sets, these don't have have a ' character' on their own. They are all lacking a positioning in the ancient world.

This is my attempt to join them together.

The circular building at the rear of the castle had to be raised a few bricks so that it could be seen. Of course the battle didn't take place on a flat surface so again a landscape was needed.

As Helm's Deep is in a valley, I tried to show the hills. Gandalf had to be at the battle so he is up high ready to lead the charge. I would imagine that Gandalf the white is a natural for the next sets in the series.

The baddies blew up the drain so I tried to depict the explosion.

Weathertop is up a hill so it is raised on some BURPS.

The monster gets hit by a column in the mine so I placed them on hinges.

The spider speaks for itself.

It was great fun putting this together.

There are probably more of my elements on display than what came out of the boxes.

That is actually a really good display idea, and with it you have made kind of a lackluster set (the Mines of Moria) look much more impressive.

I love your display! (Especially Helm's Deep.)

I was thinking of making a huge display of all the Lord of the Rings Sets myself - more of a shadowbox setup - kind of an homage to the Classic Castle and Pirate dioramas in the old catalogs, when I ran into an intellectual stumbling block.

Because they represent scenes from a movie (Or story, really), they can't all exist in the same place at the same time. I mean, there's only one Frodo after all. How can he be in 2 places at once? I haven't been able to resolve this issue in my head - though perhaps I'm waaaay overthinking it, lol.

Maybe I'll just have to pick one set...

Nice work...I was particularly impressed with the way you have given the impression of movement from the exploding wall of Helm's Deep to the collapsing rock walls in Moria.

I also like the use of space and getting so much into such a small area without over-crowding.

Awesome display. I was wondering how you elevated the main keep on helms deep? Did you use just regular bricks with a facade on the front or was there some other method you used? I am just asking because I of course love to make dioramas with my sets and I am trying to find the best way to elevate that tower. Again great display and thank you for sharing.

It is a story that you are depicting in plastic. What you put down is correct because you said so. There are 2 Frodo's in that display;one on each side of the hills. Viewers can only focus on one scene at a time.

Maybe I'll just have to pick one set...

The keep is sitting on 2 Baseplate, Raised Platform 16 x 16 x 2 1/3 which in turn are sitting on numerous plates.

For a display, the keep has to be raised in order to see all of the great features.

Helm's Deep is certainly a great build but could do with more minifigs.

As there was no room to build 'the shire' with its hobbit houses, there was nowhere for Galdalf 'to arrive'.

So I used gandalf on a white horse for the battle scene and I placed Frodo on the cliff; just for somewhere to put him.

And you gave Gandalf's brown horse to an Uruk-Hai.

That still leaves out Gandalf's cart itself. Maybe you could have rebuilt it into a wooden race car for Frodo to race to Mordor? That's what I did
