Hey, I recently got Attack at Weathertop. Everything was fine, but after looking closely, I saw that my Frodo minifig head had some small, minor black marks on the sad face under the eyes and above the mouth. It's really only minor but it is bothering me a bit.

So I was wondering if anyone had any tips of how to get rid of these marks, and just these marks without damaging the rest of the face? I'm guessing with a fine tip of something and a liquid solution, but not sure exactly.

I believe Brasso is the recommended way to remove the printing of minifigs. You'll have to be really careful not to smudge the rest of the face. Also I usually apply it with a little pressure. This of course increases possibility for mistakes.

You could also try to scratch it away with an exacto knife.

How bad does it look? I'd probably just leave it as it is. If it's really bad, why not contact customer service?

Brasso is really hard on places like faces where you have to be careful of the other details getting damaged. Your safest bet is an exacto knife/razor blade/box cutter. I use a box cutter blade. Just gently scrape until its gone, but apply only the lightest pressure necessary.

Will using the knife option leave any scratches on the piece? Sorry for asking, but just wanted to make sure there was no risk, as I would rather have the black marks than a slightly scratched head.

I'd imagine there would be marks left...can you post a picture?

I use a scalpel for very fine print removal. It won't leave obvious scratches but does dull the surface ever so slightly. I don't have access to my minifigs at the moment or a camera, but I couldn't show you even if I did; it's too subtle to capture photographically. Even in life, unless I point out where I've done it, you can't tell.

I suggest you try it on a printed part you don't care abou first, perhaps on a few elements you have picked up on BrickLink.
