So... a new idea came up in my mind and i wanted to share it with you.

Paralell to the LPEpower show, i plan to make a show about the design and build process of a lego supercar. For this i will make the car on the show in the course of a year or so and covered in many episodes, lots of pictures and descriptions, etc... We will modify parts, we will use non-lego wheels and my special wheel adapters which allow us to do just that.

But, first i need to select a car to make. I have 4 suggestions of my own so far, but i'm putting this to discussion to see if anyone comes up with an interesting suggestion. My picks so far:

early 80s Porsche 911

Bmw e30 touring (i'm biased since i own one)

Dodge Challenger

Koenigsegg agera-r

I want the car to be interesting from both the technical point of view and visually. We're aiming of course to make it something that could potentially also be a lego production model (hypothetically ofc, since it's not gonna happen)

What would you like to see?

You can't go wrong with any of those choices. I have an E46 330i myself and used to own an E92 M3. I love the E30 bodystyle although the Porsche might be more interesting. Sounds like a good idea.

Didn't you already do a Challenger or was that a Charger? I thought that I had seen it in the link on crowkiller's friend's wall to one of your sites.

Do you think it's possible for you to scale down any of your ideas to use with regular Lego wheels or do you feel that your suspension modules are as small as they can go, thus requiring the non Lego wheels?

I am using non lego wheels, because lego wheels are too small and not deep enough to fit a good suspension in. Also i use turntables as wheel hubs, to make everything more rigid and responsive and because lego wheel hubs are just useless for suspension design (yes, even the unimog ones).

I would vote for the Koenigsegg just because it is so different than everything else out there. I really like the Challenger, but mechanically it is kind of boring with rear wheel drive and a live axle with leaf springs.

Is this going to be a studded, studless, or a mixture of both? And what parts are you planning on modifying? Like making your own suspension parts?

It depends on which challenger is done. The original Dodge Challenger for the 60's /70's is solid rear axle with leaf springs. The new Challenger is independent rear suspension with coil springs.

My vote would be for the Dodge Viper, new Challenger or new Chevy Camaro.

I was ofc referring to the modern challenger.

The car would utilize the different techniques where they serve best.

In the case of the koenigsegg (tbh, my top choice, because it's a REAL supercar and is simply awesome), the main tub would be studded of course, for maximum rigidity. It would also have a fixed roof instead of the detachable of the original, to keep rigidity high. Lego just isn't as rigid as a carbon fiber monocoque. :)

Whilst all the cars could exhibit great functionality i'de say go for the Koeniggyhdftythdyfggseydfhsegg just because it looks the most like a modern supercar (ie beautiful). Will it look like a technic car or will it be covered in plates? If technic, try to accurately copy every line and elegant curve without anything being there that could distract from the lines, like blocks of beams placed against each other forming random patches of solid colour, and use technic panels/fairings very carefully to avoid those problem patches. Can't wait to see what you come up with, i'll deffinately be anticipating every episode!

EDIT: oh, and whilst your'e at it, make it white

You couldn't be any more right about that... The pivot point of the standard Lego hubs is too far inward instead of being closer to the wheel where it should be, thus resulting in many builders(including myself) of having to make wheel wells larger than they need to be to accommodate the extra wide turning of the front wheels when steered... I am really hoping that in the upcoming year that Lego decides to bring out a whole slew of new parts including possibly new wheels(A nice simple 5 spoke 1:8 scale would be nice) as well as some new clutch gears and suspension components, preferably more proportional to the scale they are meant for... I wold also like to see a 5.5L or 5L new shock absorber...

I can't wait to see what you come up with for a design for this new Car project... I am sure that it will be nothing short of amazing...

And if you you do in fact go with aftermarket wheels and want to get them chromed or color tinted, let me know... It shouldn't cost very much to ship them back and forth to each other...

I hope if they do make wheel hubs, that they do NOT make them a double wishbone affair by default, but rather hubs that one can use in any suspension setup. It's really not difficult. They can ask me to design sketch them (i'll even include stuff that will allow us to make disc brakes eventually)

I will probably need more of your help with the car, not just with the color of the wheels.

Yeah, it really would be cool to have a hub that can be used in a few different ways(Like with adding or removing ball joints/axles/pins)... I've mainly been building in 1:10 scale and it is just so damn hard to come up with different ideas anymore for different suspensions in that smaller scale, especially with the old hub style...

In all Honesty though, I have no idea what kind of help that you would need from me, I think you've already shown over the years that your Mechanically inclined skills do more than hold their own...

Mechanically, yes, but i really am no good with panels and designing a body out of them.

I'm putting in my vote for the Koenigsmittywerbenjagermanjensthingy.

I'd love to see the Honda Element, though. Why is is that nobody pays attention to the consumer cars, anyway?

Because they're boring.

I'll contest that point... sure, they may be boring when they're new, but when they get old, you're sure to find a surprise or two!

Please do name a few.

Well...

-Squirrels nesting in the air filter

-Two blowouts within five seconds of each other

-A transmission dropping out on the highway

-The scent of bacon wafting from the air vents

-Attempts to electrify the car body to keep goats off of it

-Bullet holes in the sheet metal

And much, much more. Car Talk is one of my favorite radio shows, you see...

Oh.. that kind of suprises... i thought you would name a few car models that get interesting when they age. Like an enthusiast car or something... though all cars that i can remember that are old and worth lusting after were also worth lusting after when new... bmws for example (e12, e28, e21, e30, e34..)

Exactly. As a suggestion, I think the car should be either a BMW i8 or a Porsche 918 Spyder hybrid. They are both immensly complex, and sexy inside and out. I truly feel that the car you build should be a concept. Oh, and make them both true hybrids, maybe even with an onboard computer.

Perhaps an F1 car , they are technical and light and look nice perhaps put the lpe v8 in and mske everything else the right size so if looks realistic.

This size of car enables it to have many good things built in.
