Sounds good. I hope it's not just wishful thinking.

When I see TLC breaking the mold for that giant wall piece, I'll rejoice.

And it still won't address the bley issue, which is not going away for me. Faced with a choice bewteen buying old castle sets for parts on eBay, and buying new castle sets for parts from TLC, I invariably choose eBay. So far bley has not entered my structures except as a filler brick.

I thought I would be over the gray/bley thing by 2007, but it seems that I am not. The brown colour change has emerged as a significant problem too.

Also, I think that as of last year, when EB got into bed with TLC (or at least sat on the edge of the bed together, glancing deeply into each others eyes), you can't count on EB for true leaks any more.

I hope this is true, but after reading all the information in this thread and on classic-castle, I find no proof.

Only the word of a mysterious shop owner that might have been drunk :-)

This makes me very excited. I can only pray that it is true, and that the company avoids the awful Massive Ugly Wall Piece (as pointed out by Gylman) and the Cheap Ugly Wall Piece (http://www.peeron.com/inv/parts/30246). Those pieces alone make sets not even worth the price. The prefab wall pieces of the past (the flats one and the corner ones) required lots of pieces to keep them together without looking stupid, and most important they did not look cheap. These new pieces look like garbage.

A new Castle Line will mean nothing without good set design. The only good Viking Set in my opinion is the Fortress. I want the War Wagon, because the Viking Figs are incredible, but without good set design, it is just a waste of money. And I refuse to waste money on just minifigures anymore.

Skeptism is needed though. There are many people that like the lower-quality lego sets, and have said "This years models are going to be amazing, trust me ;-) " and than the sets still suck. We have to hear it from a fan of quality lego models, preferably a classic castle fan, if we want to know if these sets will be high quality.

I want to make it clear to all the naysayers that Lego can move forward/look modern and have high quality set design. Every stupid Bionacle Piece in Knights Kingdom and Viking Sets could be built out of smaller lego pieces. Look at the 7903 Rescue Helicopter. Better than almost any Town Helicopter before it, yet it is from this year. Good design my friends.

And yes the new Knights Kingdom is better than the last, but it still is weak.

Lets pray this is a sign of things to come, whether this particularily instance is a rumor or not.

I had heard (or at least I thought I had) that KK will continue into 2007. Since much of the story/KK world is still unexplored, I would be surprised if Lego were to scrap the theme completely. In fact, I was waiting for some forestmen. See my speculation re. new KK sets in August of 2005: Banteras

I would not mind; however, the thought of a new "Classic Castle" style theme.

Breaking isn't enough...melt it... X-D

Good to see I'm not alone! I won't be buying even beautiful classic castles from lego if they appear in bley...

Its unfortunate you two have so much old grey. I only have a 2ftx1ftx5inch bin NOT EVEN FULL of old grey... and an even tinier amount of Old Brown.

I am happy seeing all these sets comign out in Bley, because it means good sets for pieces. If Lego ever makes some of the classic castle pieces and other more unique pieces in Bley I will be willing to sell my old Grey... No point in keeping it if it isn't going to be produced anymore and I don't have that much. That won't be for a while though.

Do you two plan on just buying pieces from the 2nd hand market, or are you praying Lego goes back to Old Grey?

I am surprised there is not more discussion about this possible new castle theme! Even on Classic Castle!

I think there WAS discussion...back when the whole issue came out. I remember partaking in a discussion with Mr. Phes about it, and from that came a large war thread :-P

I'm just gonna continue to buy old grey from the second hand market until it runs out, and build castle with that. When I run out, I'll convert to tan and white. When that runs out I'll convert to black.

And I'll just be building a lot more Space than Castle ;-)

I have no expectation of TLC going back to old gray.

I have enough old gray for my foreseeable future, factoring in my age and life expectancy, the kind and size of thing I build (which is not huge, typically 1-5K pieces) and the size of my house which limits how much I can store, and how much I can display, at one time. Even so, I am always picking up some more here and there.

My biggest "get" was a used ISD from the initial runs with old gray. The amount of old gray plates (light and dark) is mindboggling. It's not as good for bricks. Recently shop at home was selling old gray 2x8 bricks at 1/2 price. I bought 1 to make sure it was old gray, and then when it was, I quickly bought about 30 bags.

Brown is actually a bit more of a problem for me - I always find myself looking for brown bits on bricklink.

Wait, are they still offering them? I've always thought the S@H bags were bley...and I'm in dire need of 2xX grey bricks

It was leftover stock. Not routinely available. If you order grey, typically you get the new gray. But because the bag number was less than 10,000 I wondered if it was old gray, bought one, and sure enough!! :-)

They still have the 2x8 bricks, but not on sale. I don't see 2x2, but I am only looking in the Canada store.

http://shop.lego.com/ByTheme/Leaf.aspx?cn=213&d=297 (in Canada).

See the 2x8 bag is item number 3464 (old gray), and the fences bag is 10050 (new gray). I'm not sure if this rule is reliable (>10,000 means new colours for bulk bricks) , but for example, when I bought 10150 (brown plates) its was new brown, to my disappointment, which fits.

It isn't actually a qty issue... If I liked bley I would switch. I just think it looks bad as a castle/landscape colour...

or are you praying Lego goes back to Old Grey?

When I take over the company... ;-)

I've discovered the brown problem too as I've recently received a lot of log walls only to discover that they're the new brown and all my other log pieces are the old brown. I think this will pose the same problem as old grey vs new grey - I won't be able to mix the shades otherwise the result will be undesirable.

Anyway, its always exciting to catch wind of rumours like this but I hope this is rumour is closer to reality than just wishful thinking.

Agree with you Nathan. It's not a quantity issue. New gray looks shiny and too clean. It is more suited to modeling kitchen applicances than castle walls.

If I hadn't seen old gray, I would probably have lived just fine with the new gray. But having gotten used to the old one, I just can't stand the new one, and mixing the two is totally impossible.

I agree that old Grey is better for castles. I do like the color Old Grey more, but there is no point in me trying to mass old grey, so I will deal with the less flattering look of it when building castles.
