Some of mine are 13 years old, and it never happened to me. :-|

These new ones would look ugly bugly on the type of fire trucks I build. :-(

Well that's nice, but this is a kids toy and Lego didn't like the idea if you play with it too much they break. If it's a problem there are still old ones for sale that you can buy.

Yes with the older hinge those little "teeth" would break over time, it's happened to me.

And more than that, the two pieces don't keep a good grip between them. And it's a problem, when the hinge can't support the weight of a part that fall slowly.
