bdd Posted November 4, 2006 Posted November 4, 2006 City Fire 7942- Off-Road Fire Rescue 131 Pieces $9.99 Back of Box... Pieces... Lots of fire fun. Walkie-talkie, flash light, two computers, silver helment, fire mask, cool yellow gun thingie, oxgen tank. Truck... The truck is just the normal design, with a hatch in the back that opens and closes. Nothing we haven't seen before about 10 times in the last few years. The Back... Stores all the stuff, nice, has a hose in the back too. Also has a hatch like the truck. The Overall Set... There is nothing really wrong with the set, but it's not special. Lego does the same design every year and just changes it a little. The hatches on the back are a nice, but when will we get some car doors? I didn't even bother talking about the minifig because it's the minifig that the Fire Keychain is from, nothing special at all. it's a neat set, but there is no thought put into it. If you like a truck or Fire set then buy it. Pieces are nice for Fire too and 131 for $10 isn't bad. Just once again there is nothnig orginal to the set. EDIT: I forgot stickes suck. There are 7 stickers, two are pointless in the back of the truck. Can be bought now.... http://shop.lego.com/ByTheme/Product.aspx?p=7942&cn=381&d=9 Quote
Zarkan Posted November 4, 2006 Posted November 4, 2006 It may not be orriganal, but it takes the best of the small and medium Fire sets and puts it into one set, which is great if you missed out on the old fire line or want a kit that has it all. Plus, its a fairly cheap way to get some cool parts like the red hinge plates and that AWESOME windsheild! ;-) Oh, and did I mention that I love the back of the truck? Very cool, even though it's stickers. *y* Quote
alex54 Posted November 4, 2006 Posted November 4, 2006 Thanks for this review bbd. I really like the look of this pick'up. The new window shield add a nice touch of the general look, like the 1x4 tile with stickers in the pick'up back. And a silver helemt is always welcome! But the yellow gun water *wacko* ... the string is not integrated isn't it? So bad... Quote
oo7 Posted November 4, 2006 Posted November 4, 2006 Thank you bdd!!! Looks great, cool Slave I "Landing gear" (???) dual click hinge plates in red for the backs but that metal patern in the truck bed is a sticker, isn't it? And (as I said in the BTSF thread) I love that yellow gun-looking hose nozzle! But why does Lego always clip the radios to the outside of the vehicle, I guess it can also serve as a built-in anttena for a scanner radio in the inside. And is that "tool tray" thing supposed to be anything in particular, or does it just look cool? If only the windsheild wasn't in trans-blue, there were doors and rear-veiw mirrors (I'm one for realism). Well I can always mod it. Quote
bdd Posted November 4, 2006 Author Posted November 4, 2006 I wish it was trans black like sets from a few years ago windows were. The "medel" in the back of the truck are two stickers. The string seems thick to me, it was harder to tie. The tool tray is justfor looks, I see no need for it, just throw the tools in the back of the truck. Quote
Robiwan Posted November 4, 2006 Posted November 4, 2006 The hatches on the back are a nice, but when will we get some car doors? Really interesting question! I hate the models without doors, it had nothing real! :-( Quote
phoinix Posted November 4, 2006 Posted November 4, 2006 is that silvery thing at the back of the hatch of the car a sticker? :-/ im so IN LOVE with this small set! *wub* you are right this is just a simple set but that is part of its greatness!! ;-) i dont remember another lego car with a back hatch that opens and closes... 8-| you are right about the minifig...seen it SO many times before..there is nothing special here *sad* Quote
snefroe Posted November 4, 2006 Posted November 4, 2006 i think it's a nice set in addition to the large fire truck. for, instance, you can replace the back section of the fire truck (the one with the boat on top) by this one... I don't like the windscreen, though... Quote
legomilk Posted November 4, 2006 Posted November 4, 2006 Hi there, can you give me the book number of the building instruction? Quote

Yeah I said that in another thread. I ahven't tried it yet but I think it will make both look better. I don't like the windscreen, though... 8- Quote
Cabby Posted November 4, 2006 Posted November 4, 2006 Thanks for the review. It looks like a nice addition to the fire line, altough it doesn't really bring anything new except for the windshield. The back of the pick-up + tray offer lots of storage capacity, good! :-) Quote
Freddie Posted November 4, 2006 Posted November 4, 2006 It does indeed look like a nice little set. The flood-light (or tool tray as it was called further up the thread) is a nice detail, which many of LEGO's fire-trucks have lacked. The windscreen is also interesting, giving the car a more real look. In short, I like it. And I'll make sure to get one, along with the new fire-station, when the '07 sortiment is released here in Europe. Quote
Sting Posted November 4, 2006 Posted November 4, 2006 It is very unfortunate that the pictures do not load on my computer! I would really like to see this! Quote
oo7 Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 Hey, I just realized in the blurry box art it looks like this pick-up could have a back window, but in the pictures I can't tell if there is one or not. Could you please confirm this bdd? Quote
bdd Posted November 5, 2006 Author Posted November 5, 2006 Yes there is a "window", it's a clear 1x2 indent piece. It's like the pieces on the sides of the back attachment, but only 1x2. It's there so you can fit the minifig with his hat on. Quote
xwingyoda Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 Tks (again :-P ) for this neat review bdd !! Those small sets are truly amazing !! A major congrats to TLC for this *y* In a small set you have (part wise): a great new windshield, loads of accessories, a neat fire spray gun *wub* and a silver helmet re *wub* This is a definite must buy in my book !! and at least 2 copies hehe :-P *yoda* Quote

L'Exocet Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 Thanks for this one too, bdd! well i'm not too fond of the trans-blue windshield, though... trans-dark would have made the entire set more compatible with the rest I quite agree on that with you, snef. But without the fire department stickers and the flashing lights it'll make a nice civilian pick-up. Quote
bdd Posted November 6, 2006 Author Posted November 6, 2006 The back window is this piece if anyone got concused with my discription. There is also a one plate gap above the window. Quote
alex54 Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 well i'm not too fond of the trans-blue windshield, though... trans-dark would have made the entire set more compatible with the rest I can't agree! Because the color of the other windows of the other firemen sets are trans-blue too, so no problem :-P ! But maybe the small back window should have been trans-blue too...(really easy to change :-D !) Quote

UniqueBuilder Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 Likes: The new windscreen Lots of red panel parts 4 x 4 hood/roof plates Diamond plate stickers *wub* Silver helmet Tools Dislikes: The color of the windscreen.. those shutters on the back, I miss the old hinges! :'-( Well, for the shutter part, I just have to say I do NOT like the new hinges, and I still don't understand why TLC changed them! :'-( With the old ones, you could do smooth, slow movements, but with the new: *CLICK CLICK CLICK* *fall off* :-( But I will buy some copies of this set anyways. ;-) Quote
alex54 Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 those shutters on the back, I miss the old hinges! :'-( Well, for the shutter part, I just have to say I do NOT like the new hinges, and I still don't understand why TLC changed them! :'-( With the old ones, you could do smooth, slow movements, but with the new: *CLICK CLICK CLICK* *fall off* :-( TLC has changed them because the old ones are not strong enought. With the time, the parts of the shutter don't stay together very well. And it seems that with the new shutters, it's not the case, but you have some angle to respect and the pieces are bigger (where the two pieces are connected). I dislike them too *sad* Quote
bdd Posted November 12, 2006 Author Posted November 12, 2006 Yes with the older hinge those little "teeth" would break over time, it's happened to me. With the new ones that doesn't happen, but they don't look are sharp. With these I don't mind them too much, they have grown on me. Quote
UniqueBuilder Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 Some of mine are 13 years old, and it never happened to me. :-| These new ones would look ugly bugly on the type of fire trucks I build. :-( Quote
