The Middleman Posted January 18, 2005 Posted January 18, 2005 Fire Helicopter http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...irehelifull.jpg My least favorite of all the sets. Be prepared for serious bashing. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...helicockpit.jpg Start with the cockpit - the cockpit is not airtight, and looks botchy and blocky. Very unsightly when closed. The inside is ok. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...ehelicannon.jpg The 'water cannon' - the perpetual stream of water annoys me, and makes it look fake. The cones should not have been doubled. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...annonturned.jpg A shot of the cannon turned and angled for fairness. Meanwhile, notice the horribly ugly cockpit. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...rehelirotor.jpg An overhead shot, to view the horrendously <insert that tiresome argument> rotor. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...firehelifin.jpg The propellor that barely deserves a mention. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...firehelifig.jpg The figure; not so bad. Nothing against this dude. Overall rating: 6/10. Consider them pity points, with 1 true point for Fire Pilot Pedro. Fire Car http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...firecarfull.jpg An ok little set. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...firecarback.jpg The back of the ok little set. Notice hatchet and fire extinguisher. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo.../firecarfig.jpg The ok little minifig. Overall rating: 9/10. You pay for what you get, which isn't much either way. Fire Truck http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...retruckfull.jpg My favorite of all the City sets so far. This is a fully functional and perfectly designed set. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...retruckseat.jpg The standard driver's seat (you won't see any doors in the City sets, so I won't deduct points for the lack thereof). http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...ckopenhatch.jpg The hatch now open, revealing a crate of accessories (hatches open into same compartment from both sides). http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...edturntable.jpg Notice the stabilizers; as long as they are in the up position, the ladder cannot pivot. This is clever and realistic. Also note the fire hose, that pulls out to a good 8 inches or so. Haven't seen one of those in a while! The other side is not parallel - it has a hatch instead of a fire hose. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...tableturned.jpg The stabilizers on the ground - they don't touch the ground by a millimeter or so, but they look like they do. Now the ladder can turn! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...ladderlatch.jpg The next feature of the ladder is an ingenious lifting system. By lifting the ladder, the pole locks into the notches in the technic piece, causing it to stay in position. See next pic... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...latchlifted.jpg VOILA! Lifted ladder! Fire Chief Ferdinand shouts 'Happy day!' http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...rucktrailer.jpg A little mini-trailer included. Latches on via the typical trailer attachment, with a little 1x1 hook thing attached that swings down so it can stand freely. This must be lifted when attached to the fire truck. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...trailerfrnt.jpg Hatches open, and a shot of the life jacket - lovin' it! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...retruckfigs.jpg And, finally, the figures - the only set with Fire Chief Ferdinand! Overall rating: 10/10. Absolutely freakin' perfect. Fire Station http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...stationfull.jpg The fire station is a very good set. Not my favorite, and not as impressive as the police station. The pictures I've taken are a bit dim/fuzzy, since this was early in the morning. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...stationgate.jpg The garage is headed by a ladder acting as a gate, which is a bit flimsy (easily moddable to be sturdy). A control panel sits on the left, with a keypad. The fire emblem emblazoned on the top is indeed printed, one of the few designs that is in this series. The roof is functional, but not detailed. Notice the extra fire ladder attached to the side; this is easily attachable to the fire truck. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...onfrontdoor.jpg The right section is started off by a streetside display of weaponry and machinery (oops, says whoever designed this place). All the fire sets have TONS of little accessories like these. None of the pieces here are printed; all are stickers. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...stationpole.jpg The fire pole is probably my least favorite part of this set. It just looks awkward, and the bucket thing is unrealistic. Also here, notice the windows on the tower; two of the reverse-slanting windows side by side, and then one of those 3x6 trans-grey slopes on top, giving it a very stilted look. Again, I do not like this part of the set. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...stationback.jpg The back of the fire station is fairly uneventful. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...stationdesk.jpg Here's the inside of the front door, with a computer (you'll see a few of these in the City sets). Who knows why there's a front desk in a fire station... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...stationctrl.jpg And the other occupied room, what I call the watchtower. You've got your radar, keyboard, high-tech computer, and on the left, not really visible, a map of the city with a bright red ALARM on it. Pretty nifty room. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...ionbirdseye.jpg A birds-eye of the station for good measure... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...estationvan.jpg A nifty little fire van! It's got a few compartments and a standard driver's seat, with a little oddity in the back. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...tionvanback.jpg If you look on the bumper, you'll notice a little faucet there - perhaps to fuel the hose? We may never know... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...tationmnfgs.jpg And the minifigures! I love the backpack system of the firefighters. Overall rating: 8/10, with points off for the stilted windows, the fire pole, and the lacking second story. Still, it's not as bad as I make it sound. GREAT SET! POLICE COLLECTION REVIEW: COMING VERY SOON! Quote

Orlego Posted January 18, 2005 Posted January 18, 2005 The fire truck is very well done. It is my favorite new City set so far. I'm still waiting for Central Florida to get the new police sets in stock. Quote

Vader Posted January 18, 2005 Posted January 18, 2005 Out of the new city sets i like the police van the best, its just so well put together :) Quote
Orlego Posted January 18, 2005 Posted January 18, 2005 Damn you Vader, I really want the police van and a few new police cars. No store in central Florida has these sets yet. I guess I could get them from S@H but I love searching for them. ;) Quote
The Middleman Posted January 18, 2005 Author Posted January 18, 2005 Thanks for the positive feedback, men. Police review up in under 2 hours, so stay tuned to this topic! Better quality pics for the coppers. ;) Quote
sam89 Posted January 18, 2005 Posted January 18, 2005 It's been over two hours now ;) Just kidding, hope you can get your review up soon. Quote
Brickmaster Posted January 18, 2005 Posted January 18, 2005 I have too agree the fire truck is freakin perfect. The fire hose, fenders, colors, trailor, definently does add up too a ten. The fire helecopter probobly is the worst set of the line. I wouldnt really reccomend it. Quote
Vader Posted January 18, 2005 Posted January 18, 2005 "POLICE TODAY FINALLY CAUGHT UP WITH THE FUGATIVE KNOWN AS ORLEGO......." :-D ;) :P Quote
Brickmaster Posted January 18, 2005 Posted January 18, 2005 Thats pretty funny, and more pics of the police sets, Great! Is that policeman holding a lazer gun? Quote
ApophisV Posted January 18, 2005 Posted January 18, 2005 Ts ts, thats not a laser gun but an empirial blaster.... Don't you recognize the unique shape and the orange glow of this detailed gun that is an almost exact copy from the movies' desig??? :D :D :P ;) Quote
Vader Posted January 18, 2005 Posted January 18, 2005 Hes taken the weapon off of the fugative ;) Quote
The Middleman Posted January 18, 2005 Author Posted January 18, 2005 Sorry guys, fell asleep, exporting/uploading police pics now. ;) Quote

The Middleman Posted January 19, 2005 Author Posted January 19, 2005 Police Motorcyle http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...orcyclefull.jpg I love this little set. I was expecting it to be giant against the other sets, according to other reviews, but it's a perfect little stylized motorcycle. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...orcycleside.jpg A side shot of this pimped-out road beast, yo. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...torcyclefig.jpg Don't forget Police Biker Barry! Overall rating: 9/10. Yes, it's a little <insert that tiresome argument>. Still, it's a motorcycle, it's to scale, and it WORKS - I love it! Prisoner Transport http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...ansportfull.jpg It's not the greatest set in the world. A little awkward, but it serves the purpose, with 2 minifigs for $10. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...ansportseat.jpg A shot of the seat. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...ansportback.jpg One thing you can barely see is a nice little touch - a window separating the policeman from the prisoner. I liked this. The doors aren't airtight, though, which takes off from the score. I like the steps. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...ansportfigs.jpg A shot of the minifigs - Stern Policeman Sebastion and Generic Prisoner George! Overall rating: 7/10. Blocky, non-airtight in some parts. Still worth it for the two minifigs. I'd give it an extra point if everyone got the NINE EXTRA 1X1 TRANS BLUE SLOPES I GOT! :-D Police Station http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...stationfull.jpg The police station... ah yes. My second favorite of the line for sheer.... police-station-ness. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...tationcycle.jpg It comes with a motorcycle! How handy. A tad bit different from the one you buy seperately. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...tionvanside.jpg And a crappy little van. It's like the prisoner transport diet version. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...tionvanback.jpg Notice the new back panel 'replacing' the classic old one. BRING THE OLD ONE BACK. I hate this! It's not airtight by a loooong shot. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...vanbackopen.jpg The inside. Blah. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...ionheliside.jpg I actually prefer this helicopter to the fire one. Very standard, and still functional and good-looking. Airtight! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...tionhelicam.jpg Love those little smoked windows. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...ionheliseat.jpg And a computer, as compared to the crappy 1x2 techno-panel in the Fire heli. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...tionwalkway.jpg Moving on from the vehicles, we have the main walkway, nifty - the one leading to the prison cell is a bit thin. Keep your eye on that door. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...ioncelldoor.jpg Ta-da! I don't know if these are new pieces, but they make making sliding doors a SNAP. I love it! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...ionwallfall.jpg The wall is removable, naturally, but it doesn't blend in well and is a bit flimsy. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...ncellinside.jpg Our poor crook trapped in his cell, complete with bed and mug. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...oncelltally.jpg I had to take a pic of that. Such a nifty sticker! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...searchlight.jpg The top of the cell, with sirens and searchlight. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...onhelitower.jpg The heli tower, with oil can. The heli sits nicely on the platform, with help from the 1x1 rounders you can see around the perimeter. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...ionhelitilt.jpg And a tilt for easy takeoff! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...iontowerone.jpg The entry tower. Nice windows and design. I like the sloping front and the receding windows. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...tationentry.jpg Inside the front, a metal detector, with computer. Love these touches! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...interroroom.jpg An interrogation room, complete with brightlight and tape recorder. Bit macabre for LEGO! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...iontowertwo.jpg The second tower. The front's less interesting than the other, but they mix nicely. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...tiongunrack.jpg The equipment rack. Love those 'guns'! Not only bright red, but bright red MEGAPHONES! LEGO, I know you're trying to be kid-friendly, but a 9-year-old can turn on the TV, watch Batman for 5 minutes, and see 10 people shot. This is pure silliness. On the note of things I'm not that fond of, this is a good time to mention the 14x14 plates you see here. They're awkward and <insert that tiresome argument>. No-no. (on a side note, the BASEPLATE itself is awesome, I love it, not printed and useless!) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...mugshotroom.jpg The inside of the ground room on the second tower is a mugshot room, complete with camera and height scale. Bland, but effective - never expected this! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...troomwanted.jpg Another shot of the mugshot room, where you can see the 'wanted' poster (oddly placed). http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...onprintroom.jpg A print examination room, complete with magnifying glass and detailed printed fingerprint piece (one of the few printed pieces). The mag. glass is held by one of Doc Ock's claw pieces. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...onalertroom.jpg An alert room on the tallest tower. That control panel is not printed. The whole computer thing is one sticker. Check out the map of 'City' City! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...stationback.jpg A summary shot of the back. I love the detail in the rooms. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo.../stationtop.jpg A nice shot of the top. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...stationfigs.jpg Minifigs, lots of them! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/blo...hlightfiggy.jpg Obligatory shot of Light-up Policeman Larry. Overall rating: 8/10. Points off for the van, the thin walkway, the <insert that tiresome argument> hole-filler plates, and the red megaphone guns. I'll review the Police Car when it ships to me, but that's it for now! :-D Hope you enjoyed! (sorry for all the pics, Apophis :P) Quote
