Yes I saw it before, and yes it is a cool site, but why do you call this topic Islanders??

Because im trying to get people to get interested in islander again and because theres an islander in it .Do you like islanders? *pirate*

I always thought that the Islanders were a strange bunch of people. Got almost all of the sets, except the 6264 Forbidden Cove has not arrived here yet and I do not own the enchanted Island legend 6292. I do have all the others I think.

Also, I got a loose Pirate / Islander poster from approximately 1994. It basically is an enlarged version of the pirate theme picture in the 1994 catalogue.

great to hear K, and welcome to EB !!! islanders are one of my second favorite themes, right after the western theme. though between islanders and the adventures, i don't know who wins my favor ;-)

in any case, i agree... the islanders need more attention, however, most of my efforts on EB are focus on the wild west... but if you create the threads, i will surely particiapte in the discussion X-D

Well we can't let you call a thread "Islanders" if it isn't actually about Islanders, so I'm going to have to rename more appropriately.

Here's the only islander image I've come across on that website:

Sorry about that, and thanks for changing the name.

Did Ben design his mini-figures in MlCad? I haven't stopped by to read his website to learn how he created these models, and probably won't have time for another few days. So someone else can do it. :-D

Ok, :-) / Well, for the backgrounds he used Pov-Ray...................I can't find wether he used MlCad (of course there are one or two other types like MlCad out there) or not, but this came to my head....He made the bricks himself in Pov-Ray X-O

The backgrounds? Most of them don't have backgrounds, except for perhaps this image...

How old is POV-Ray because the background I see in that image looks drab.

Hmmm... This must be quite old because I remember using Bryce back in the mid 90's and it produced images much better than this and that was about 10 years ago. Unless, I'm looking at the program in the wrong light, as this could be a recent image but he's just used poor texture maps. However, I'm sure I've seen this website floating around for years now.

The latest version is capable of images like this...

Here's a POV Ray image from September 1995 and it doesn't look too bad.

I'll take a stab and say its a bust of Beethoven. Its a bit hard to tell because of the angle its on.

However, we seem to be getting off topic! KAHUKA, what do you think of the rendering of an Islander in his canoe?

Theres one good thing and one bad thing about it.First of all the good thing is he got most of the islander correct on the head and body of course but the bad thing is he forgot the islanders grass skirt and hair/horn.The bad thing about the canoe is the sticker isnt there. That about narrows it down so i rate it a

To be quite honest I'd never noticed the mini-figure were missing those details, but maybe I'm not as "Islander Inclined" as you. I suppose Ben didn't add these details because they might have been difficult to reproduce in POV Ray, however he seems to have done a good job with the details he has added so maybe that's not the reason.

He says "I'm working on support for applying imagemaps to legs (for those leafy garments Islanders wear)" and "This gave me an opportunity to use Jer's new Islander shirt imagemap, too. I do need to get him to draw the sticker that goes on the ends of the canoe, though so we know he's not done yet
