SNIPE Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 Hi, What do the unimog tyres act like and look like on these rims: Also, which one of these two rims are taller/wider (same thing since its a circle)? here is the unimog tires: Quote
zewy623 Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 well first off... what color are those wheels?? Quote
DLuders Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 From Match #280 on the Bricklink "Tire on Wheel" Relationships webpage, one can see that the x1825 Unimog tire fits on the 44772 and 2998 wheels. The silver 22969 wheels (pictured above) are 62 mm diameter -- too big to fit the 56mm-Inside-Diameter Unimog tires. Quote
SNIPE Posted November 13, 2011 Author Posted November 13, 2011 (edited) I mean if you forced them on, not a 'perfect' fit please note that these are the nimog tires: the silver rim is larger than he black rim in the original post? (height wise) Edited November 13, 2011 by SNIPE Quote
DLuders Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 (edited) The black-colored 44777 wheels that you pictured above are "Wheel 68.8 x 36 ZR Solid Smooth". The inside diameter of the Unimog's x1825 tires are (as stated previously) 56 mm. The 44777 tires only appeared on two Lego RC sets -- the 8376 (which I own) and 8366. Here are the pieces separately: I pried off the Unimog tire from its original 44772 wheel, and wrapped it around the 44777 wheel -- it works! I was surprised. Since there is no rim lip for the rubber to grab onto, one has to curl the edges of the tire inwards. The effect looks bizarre -- there is a big indentation where the rubber curls around the solid black wheel and it looks like two black tires stacked one upon another. The outer width of the tire matches the solid wheel perfectly, and the tire's outer diameter is 96mm. I will now try to put the Unimog tires on the 22969 wheels of the 8466 Off Roader (which I own too) -- stand by.... ...It fits! When the tire sits naturally on the INNERMOST rim, the outside diameter of the tire is 94mm but the outermost rim of the wheel is sticking out on both sides of the tire. There is no bulging or distortion of the rubber -- it's that the wheel is considerably WIDER than the tire. When I pry the rubber outwards to fit the OUTERMOST rim, the sidewalls of the tire are no longer vertical and the "contact patch" on the ground is dished-shaped inwards by about 2 mm. Nevertheless, the outside diameter of the tire is the same at 94 mm. Edited November 13, 2011 by DLuders Quote
DLuders Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 (edited) I added five photos of the above tire/wheel combination to my Flickr photoset. Go there to see the narrative: No Dishing When Tire Sits on Inner Rim -- Note that the sidewalls of the x1825 tire are straight when mounted on the INNERMOST rim of the 22969 wheel. There is no "dishing" of the contact patch with the ground. Outside diameter of tire = 94 mm: WHEN TIRE IS MOUNTED ON THE OUTERMOST RIM OF THE 22969 WHEEL -- (Outside View) x1825 Lego Tire on 22969 Wheel -- The sidewalls of the x1825 Lego tire looks better on the outside of the 22969 wheel: Asymmetric Seating of x1825 Lego Tire on 22969 Wheel -- Notice the "dishing" of the rubber across the "contact patch" with the ground, and the asymmetric seating of the tire on the rim. The outside of the wheel is to the right: Outside Diameter of x1825 Tire = 94 mm -- The outside diameter of the x1825 Lego tire (from the 8110 Unimog U400 set) measures 94mm when mounted on the 22969 wheels from the 8466 Off Roader set: Inside View) x1825 Lego Tire on 22969 Wheel -- The x1825 Lego tire sidwall slants a lot more on the inside of the 22969 wheel than it does on the outside: Edited November 13, 2011 by DLuders Quote
BondemandClausen Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 Just a little comment on the issue. If you use the 94.8x44 R www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=54120 on the silver rim as shown above, you will get i wider wheel, than with the rim normally fitting 54120. The diameter gets smaller allthough. Quote

If you are lookin for rims in chrome style i am sure you can find it on Bricklink. I know that there is a store that fabricates and sells them. I have no shares in the store and have never traded with them, but they can be found. Quote
