SNIPE Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 (edited) MOC Builder Sariel has created a chainsaw MOC out of technic and system parts that has a working chain and runner, speed controls and a realsistic design, here it is: (sorry if the video is not embedded i could not get it to work) I wonder how the front gear is kept in position, i cant see the axle for another bead behind it. timslegos Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 I think the gear just floats in place and is held in by the force of the chain against 2 8t gears. I'm not completely sure though. tim Quote
Splat Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 I wonder how the front gear is kept in position, i cant see the axle for another bead behind it. For any information on Sariel's creations, I suggest you visit his website sariel.pl. He documents most of his work, and has lots of details, photos, and usually a video too. For his Chainsaw, he states the following: The blade is basically a 1 stud thick layer of bricks. On the tip of it, there is a 40t gear with no apparent means of support. Between it and the blade, there are two freely rotating 8t gears that let the 40t gear roll on them. The 40t gear is pushed against the 8t gears by the chain – so basically the whole blade is kept together by the tightness of the chain. Quote
Sariel Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 Timr got it just right. I basically built this whole thing to see how this gear would work :) Quote
DLuders Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 (edited) The pics on Sariel's webpage are very macabre! . Edited November 5, 2011 by DLuders Quote
