peddi0027 Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 I just want to say a big hello to the community. I am 38 and into Lego since my youth. I started with classic bricks, the yellow castle and classic space. I had the black technic auto chassis and learned a lot about physics, even more than in school. This year my dad came up with the idea of giving me the unimog 8110 as Christmas present. So I am counting the days. I bought myself the green tractor 8284 to fill the days up to Christmas. I have choosen the tractor because of its similarities in the driving shaft. Right now, I ordered some motors and RC tools to motorize the tractor, which I plan to do with the unimog as well. My question to the dear community: if I want to equip the unimog with tools like a mower, which sets would you recommend for parts? I have seen the list of the most wanted sets. But which sets do you believe ist best for tool parts? I thought about the excavator 8043, but now I got the remote oarts. Any suggestions? Thx! Quote
Sokratesz Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 (edited) 8421 has a boatload of studless parts including some pneumatics and a very powerful RC motor, and when you search carefully, can be had for less than 100€. Fairs and flea-markets are also a good source for cheap (incomplete) sets and lots. Older studded sets like 8868 and 8462 are also great for (old) parts as they can be found cheaply. - Sok. DLuders Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 @ peddi0027: Welcome to Eurobricks! Do you know about Bricklink.com ("The Unofficial Lego Marketplace")? By using its "Catalog" function, one can rummage through the various Technic part categories to obtain the "spare parts" you need, without having to buy entire sets. Rebrickable.com is also a useful tool for determining what you can make from various Lego sets. Quote
Darth Dino Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 (edited) Hi If you do not care about cleaning Lego, i would recommend also to get them cheap as "incomplete" and used sets. Excample: A sealed Offroader cost me at Ebay Germany 450€. Even the wheels (the reason why people want this set) are available for +60€ used. I won an auction that did not have the correct setnumber 8466 in the title but "monsterwheels". I got for 30€ all the suspension, steering and gears stuff plus the wheels because nonbody found and wanted them. To come back to your topic: Use rebrickable and then try to add some smaler sets to you collection, you will see how easily you will get fast a number of pieces that will work nice for your builds. No complete and or new sets are necessary for that. Dino Edited November 4, 2011 by Darth Dino Quote
peddi0027 Posted November 4, 2011 Author Posted November 4, 2011 DL: thanks for your warm welcome! I know about the shops. But I am not as firm with the parts and as technically thinking, so I can not exactly plan which parts I need. I tend to be creative using a pool of parts. That is how I became into Lego! The motors have just arrived! Quote
mahjqa Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 Welcome. I hope you also have the remote control, because the remote conrol is crap for pretty much anything that's not a train. (images are clickable) Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 Because the remote control is crap for pretty much anything that's not a train. (images are clickable) How Is this remote control bad and not worth getting? Quote
dikkie klijn Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 (edited) It is kind of useless for steering, just turn left/right is easier to handle than this fast or that fast to the left/right. But for the rest it's just fine. Edited November 4, 2011 by dikkie klijn Quote
peddi0027 Posted November 4, 2011 Author Posted November 4, 2011 Thanks. I was inspired by this and it makes sense to me: http://mocpages.com/moc.php/280041 Quote
KEvron Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 i suggest a visit to either bricklink or peeron. both sites offer set inventories. you can peruse the inventories of the currently available sets, and then determine which set best meets your needs. KEvron Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 (edited) Both the 8043 and the 8258 are good sets with lots of usefull parts. Edited November 4, 2011 by Alasdair Ryan Quote
PlaneCrazy Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 (edited) Both the 8043 and the 8258 are good sets with lots of usefull parts. If you need older parts you could not go past 8880 (Black Super car). Even if you don't use the parts, the build is great. Welcome to Euro Bricks, I recently got back into Lego again and have not looked back. Also seems to have rubbed off on my daughter; she is Lego mad as well and insists on helping dad. Bricktrain Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 I check out the toy stores sales and usually try to get larger sets when they are on sale, some are better value for money, brickset has cost per part on each set which is also useful as a rough guide. Quote
Follows Closely Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 ToysRus is having a buy one get one %50 off sale. This is a good way to get multiple sets at a reasonable price. Quote
