Jim Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 Can anyone answer this for me? Nope sorry. I did notice the same phenomenon with the Star Wars AT-AT. Quote
CP5670 Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 Some interesting concepts here. I like to run this model from an external compressor (which I can hook up to different models), but it's nice to have an all-in-one solution. There should definitely be enough space for one if you remove the manual pumps. Can anyone tell me why there is a black or a yellow box version of this set? Also why does it say 11-99 on the yellow box, there has to be a story to this one! Which box is more sought after as well? It's a 2003 copy of the set. Many 2003 sets across a variety of themes had the 99 age limit, obviously as a subtle nod to AFOLs. They stopped doing it in 2004 though. The Technic box art was also changed to be black in 2004 and the design is still in use today. Quote

davidmull Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 Anyone know who designed the famous 8455? Quote
legomania94 Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 how can I open the file file "LXF"? Quote
Blakbird Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 LXF is a Lego Digital Designer file. Go Download Lego Digital Designer from the Lego website and then you can open the file. Quote
legomania94 Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 why the program "Lego Digital Designer" does not open the file "LXF"? as soon as I open it for me: try reinstall LDD. see the read me file for help, or go to http://ldd.lego.com/support/ Quote
Blakbird Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 No idea. You might try asking in the Lego Digital Designer forum. Quote
Lipko Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 Are you sure LDD is not running already? If you start LDD, THEN try to double click on a .lxf file in your file browser, you get this error. Either close LDD, or open the file from it. Quote
legomania94 Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 Okke I'll try thank you very much Quote
ABslego Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 My favorite set this one, I have actually 2 of them :D A compressor is a good idea, but you should think about an air tank also. Found somethin on youtube: Not that i like the placement of his air tanks, but it would improve the playability much if you could implement one. Quote
Junpei Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 I honestly think it should be manual, how lazy can you be? It works faster and looks better with a manual pump anyway, no use trying to make a motorized compressor IMO. Quote
Rockbrick Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 I tried with an external Pump/compressor and airtank and found better results just using the compressor on its own and no airtank I used the RC motor - I also fitted the same pump to my 8421: I never fitted it into the 8455 but now I think I will have to give it a try.... ! kristl Posted August 13, 2025 Author Posted August 13, 2025 Hi all, just bumping this thread with a 8455 inspired model that was presented by creator Pales27 on Rebrickable a few days ago (perhaps some of you haven't noticed it yet) and which addresses and apparently resolves all the issuess around fitting a compressor in the model and also ads new functionality such as steering and driving. It does look however that the model is completely redesigned, so it is not really a 8455 MOD, but it sure makes me wanna try to do the same with my 8455 . Quote
Paul B Technic Posted August 14, 2025 Posted August 14, 2025 8455 was the only Technic set I purchased for about 10 years, I still miss it. This is a great redesign of it. Quote
