Legeaux Posted September 5, 2006 Posted September 5, 2006 Ahoy all, My daughter gave me a 6210 Jabba's Sail Barge for Fathers' Day. It seemed like a good set from the photos I'd seen, but I didn't realise how good it was until I opened the box and started building. Not only is there an excellent part selection (3x2 gunport lids, anyone, bow sections in brown, tall slopes in dark grey, 8x8 grates in tan etc etc), but there's a variety of excellent construction techniques - sides with tumblehome, the 'rounded' stern (which incorporates tumblehome too), and of course the clever mounting of the 3x2 hatch covers on flex tube. The figures aren't that useful, although I do like to use the han solo torsos for sailors (white, opened neck shirt), and the Princess Leia fig has its own uses. While I'm looking forward to utilising many of the parts in a pirates vessel soon, I am so impressed with the design of the sail barge that I think I'll keep it around intact for just a bit longer. Incidentally, one of the alternate models given for the set is a pirate ship, complete with sails, cannon and even a figurehead (the whole Princess Leia fig!). Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted September 5, 2006 Governor Posted September 5, 2006 This sounds like quite an interesting use for Jabba's Sail Barge, when do you think you'll begin using it to make Pirate MOCs? Or put another way... How long do you think you need to admire it in its native form? Quote

Do you have an image this alternate model of the Barge (as a pirate ship) ? Are these building instructions also included in the set? Quote
oo7 Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 I don't have the set but I can tell you the only instructions is the one for the barge. Here is a pic of the sucky ship that is in desperate need of moding. (I would post the pic but it sais "You are not allowed to use that image extension on this board. A valid format is: http://www.domain.com/picture.gif, an invalid format is: http://www.domain.com/picture.one.gif" and I am too lazy to investigate futher at the present time.) Quote
Berry Syedow Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 The Sail Barge is one of the most extravagant builds in recent times, featuring many unique techniques (my scientific analyses surmised from a few reviews...). For a long time Star Wars was the springboard for most of TLC's bold design decisions. Now that's beginning to trickle into other system themes. (Creator, mainly, Vikings and Batman to an extent.) Mr. Legeaux, what is your opinion of Lando Calrissian's disguise/hat? From the pictures I've seen, it looks like it harbors potential for the castle theme. (Some newfangled race of bearded beings?) Here is a pic of the sucky ship that is in desperate need of moding. Harsh. ;-) Here's a link that should work. It's a decent alternative model, IMO. Quote
El Bucanero Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 That looks very odd, the original version is even better, reminds me on an Ironclad with sails. Maybe it is useful for Pirate mocs indeed, but more for a building than a ship I think, the brown plates can be useful for deck plates, and the Princess leia can be a nice figure head, we finally found a good use for fleshies: Figureheads!!! oo7 Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 Here's a link that should work. It's a decent alternative model, IMO. Hmm, it worked when I posted it, I guess the moderaters didn't like it for some reason. It works now. Quote
ghoulrealm Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 It should make a nice ship if you evened out the top deck and simply flipped it upside down. In practice it may not be quite that simple, the basic shape is allready there, just inverted. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted September 10, 2006 Governor Posted September 10, 2006 That looks very odd, the original version is even better, reminds me on an Ironclad with sails. I know diddly-squat about this Star Wars LEGO... Is there more than one version of the sail barg? If so where can I see pictures to compare them? Quote
El Bucanero Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 No I mean the version you can see on the FRONT of the box with original, not the alternative savvy? Quote
ghoulrealm Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 Here is a quick photo edit of what I had in mind. It would likely need to be entirely reworked to to arrange everything so the studs are up, and move the port holes to the upper hull. It may look a bit too much like a modern steel hulled ship, but I can live with that. Quote
JoeMI6 Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 I've had thoughs about this as well. It could very easily be converted into a nice Pirate ship with the right builder at the helm. It's got some of the exact right pieces. Quote
Scouty Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 If LEGO put in an alt model of a pirate ship, maybe with hope, and alot of wishing, they'll move to new pirate sets! Buuut, it probably wont happen :-( . Quote
oo7 Posted September 11, 2006 Posted September 11, 2006 Phes, only one vertion of the barge. Tiber is this what you mean? Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted September 17, 2006 Governor Posted September 17, 2006 Yes, Mr Tiber clarified what he meant there. I saw this set in a toy store yesterday and its quite expensive so I can't see myself purchasing it just to experiment making pirate ships. Mr Legeaux your daughter must be quite wealthy because even now I couldn't afford to give either of parents something this expensive! Quote
Scouty Posted October 27, 2006 Posted October 27, 2006 Anybody done anything with the parts for a MOC Jabba Alt, or just limping? Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted October 27, 2006 Governor Posted October 27, 2006 Maybe I'm a bit slow here but could you tell me what "limping" is Imperial Scouts? Quote
Scouty Posted October 27, 2006 Posted October 27, 2006 "not at all", is what I was kind of leaning towards. Quote
Evil Willy Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 This is a very interesting idea I would love to put to use, if only I had money, now who here has bought the set and is interested in turning it into a pirate ship? Please show us some picture and we can all throw in some ideas and get this idea going. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted October 29, 2006 Governor Posted October 29, 2006 The problem we might be facing here is nobody who builds Pirate MOCs has bought the sail barge to build a Pirate MOC with so I'm assuming that because of the expense. Maybe if it goes on sail one of us might grab one to tinker with, but I doubt there are many here rich enough to buy a sail barge just to build a pirate MOC. By all means prove me wrong lads! Quote
