Hello from France!

I'm new here, and after many years without building Lego, i finally pulled the trigger and bought some sets i always loved from ebay, namely the 8865, 8868 and the 8880. :)

I bought the 8880 described as complete for a great price. The assembled car is complete, but without any extra/leftover pieces. But now i'm kinda worried if i still can build the second model, the Formula 1 car, with just the pieces used in the main model...

For those who have/had the 8880 set, are the parts used for the 8880 (with no leftover pieces) enough to build the second model? Or there are extra leftover parts that are needed for the Formula 1?

Thanks in advance,

Martin

Bonjour, Monsieur martin1965! :classic: Welcome to the forum. I scratch-built my Lego 8880 set by buying the various parts from Bricklink.com, and built the alternate B Model (pictured below). There were a few leftover pieces, but they are DIFFERENT leftovers than the A Model. If you look at this Bricklink inventory and scroll to the bottom, you will see the handful of "Extra Items" that you may need to build the B Model. If you don't have these items, you can probably buy them from a Bricklink store in France.

That B-model is very good looking, I build it couple days ago. Maybe even better than supercar though not that advanced technically. Considering its age it is great display model!

What comes to the extra parts, there should not be any extra needed for the B-model? Actually I have lost couple of parts from the supercar, but still was able to build B-model perfectly. So my guess is; you don't need any extra's.

this is always one of the biggest challenges with buying any model second hand on ebay, one persons opinion on complete to another can vary greatly, nothing pleases me more when I buy a set from ebay and you get all the original advertising brochures, and the paper that the stickers were originally attached to, it's an added little sign that the set has been looked after, with minimal use, however also with sets which are quite rare, it is a fun challenge to locate and acquire the missing bricks to make the set complete again :-)

I've just restored a classic 12v 7735 train for example, which had about a dozen missing bricks.

That's true. I was/am thrilled with the quality of the 8880 I bought not long ago, it's just like new. It has the catalogues, the spare parts (service) thingy, the half empty sticker sheet and very minimal shelf wear like you would expect buying it new from a shop. Problem is it does not have the little clear plastic tray that holds the special parts so if anyone has one to spare or to sell, please let me know :classic:
